There is a nice lull in the mixed-martial arts schedule before we see some big UFC pay-per-views in November and December. So it’s totally appropriate to switch gears and focus on a different type of combat sport that is more of the entertainment variety.
Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW) is ready to bring its brand of blood and horror with a big show so aptly named Halloween Hell.
If you like hardcore action with big spills, stiff shots, and just all-around good ol’ fashioned professional wrestling, you need to get your ticket to one of ECCW’s biggest shows of the year. It’s all going down this Friday night at the Agriplex in the Coverdale Fairgrounds, and it won’t be for the squeamish.
The Canadian Championship will be defended to decide who is the number one contender for the ECCW championship. Let’s also not forget the always entertaining “Fans Bring the Weapons” match.
In the Main Event the uber-popular Bollywood Boyz will be defending their ECCW Tag Titles in a steel cage against The Amerikan Gunns. Trust me when I say that match alone will be well worth the price of admission.
But what intrigues me the most is a women’s match between former champ Nicole Matthews and MMA pioneer and current member of Ronda Rousey’s Four Hoursewomen, Shayna Baszler.
In case you don’t know, Baszler is new to the pro-wrestling scene, and a few months back she caused quite the stir at ECCW’s Ballroom Brawl 4 at the Commodore.
Baszler attacked Matthews from behind and proceeded to stiffly power bomb the Coquitlam native through a ladder. If you think wrestling is super fake, you need to YouTube that shot heard around the wrestling and MMA world. It was very stiff and vicious.
Matthews looked legitimately hurt and afterwards called Baszler out on Twitter. They’ve been beefing ever since.
Now, Matthews is looking forward to the opportunity to show that not anyone can just jump into the pro-wrestling ring.
“Usually, people will start small and work their way up, but Shayna decided to piss off the top dog, sort of speak,” a very pissed off Matthews said. “She may call herself the ‘Queen of Spades,’ but I’m the queen of Canadian wrestling. She’s jumped into the shark infested water, and I smell blood.”
There is some legitimate heat between both women so expect some fireworks. Tickets are going fast but you can get what’s remaining at ECCW.com.
