Dr. Lisa Capriotti, a Citadel chemistry professor, was recently tested and promoted to 2nd degree black belt in jujitsu at the Samurai Judo and Jujitsu Club at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek.
Dr. Capriotti also has earned high black belt ranks in judo, karate, and iaido, the art of the Samurai sword. In addition, she is a certified coach, kata instructor, regional referee, national kata champion, world kata competitor, masters judo champion, and was inducted into the National Judo Hall of Fame.
The Samurai jujitsu program, headed by Dr. Ronald Allan Charles, 8th degree judo and 6th degree jujitsu black belt, offers free instruction in practical, traditional self defense, with a focus on street survival and realistic ways to deal with or eliminate threats. The school teaches court-defensible techniques, avoidance strategies and methods of controlling others through holds and joint locks.
