In an industrial block on the outskirts of Brisbane, Kara Webb is training day and night in her quest to prove herself the fittest women on the planet at the 2015 CrossFit Games in the US.

The competition spawned from the fitness program CrossFit created by American Greg Glassman.

Ms Webb qualified number one in the world for this year’s games and will head into the event as one of the favourites to take out the competition.

“I was really happy with my performance at regionals but I’m definitely not complacent and I’m ready to work harder for LA,” she said.

Ms Webb held second position at the 2014 CrossFit Games before a pre-existing back injury forced her to withdraw from the competition.

But she refused to look at that experience in a negative light.

“Being able to compete and still being able to hold my own with some absolutely amazing women who can do some amazing things, it was really cool to recognise what I was actually capable of,” she said.

Ms Webb was introduced to CrossFit in 2011 by her personal trainer, Brian Bucholz.

“She’s always been a very strong work ethic girl and I think pretty much from the start before she even started doing CrossFit she was destined to do good things,” he said.

Ms Webb is also a CrossFit coach and she believes coaching other people in the sport has helped her as an athlete.

“I’ve also been able to share my experiences with other people training the way I do, and having the sort of world of knowledge from four years of competing, I’ve gone through a lot of different things,” she said.

There are now 606 CrossFit affiliate gyms or “boxes” across Australia.

This year 7,319 people in Australia took part in the CrossFit Open, which is the first qualifying event for the CrossFit Games.

“For some people they use it as a way to be a part of essentially a worldwide event so they can compete against the whole entire world, which is awesome, and competing doesn’t necessarily need to be competitive and you have to win,” Ms Webb said.

The CrossFit Games begin on July 21 in Carson in California.
