Kelly Brock

The search for New Zealand’s fittest mums is over.

Trailing by just one point behind the winner, Gisborne woman Kelly Brock took second place at CrossFit New Zealand’s national Fittest Mum competition on Saturday.

Of the three categories made up of an RX, scaled and masters divisions, Ms Brock took on the RX challenge.

The crossfit challenge consisted of cardio work, weightlifting and gymnastics and the RX category is prescribed events.

The gymnastics component was the hardest part of the competition for Ms Brock.

“When they mix all three, you have to strategise to work to your strength and work hard on your weakness.”

Ms Brock took on crossfit training two years ago to try to change her lifestyle.

“I thought I would try something different. I was attracted to crossfit.”

First place in the Fittest Mum crossfit competition was taken by Isla Blair of New Plymouth’s CrossFit Latitude 39˚, while 10 points behind Ms Brock in second place was Katrina Barrack of Crossfit West Auckland.

Each of the three winners was presented with a kettlebell weight trophy.
