Úna Quinn has become the IBJJF European Champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The European championships taking place across five days in Pavilhão Multiusos de Odivelas in Lisbon, Portugal involved a record 3,500 competitors, making it the world’s largest Brazilian jiu jitsu tournament.
Úna beat her first opponent Natalie Nicholson from England 10-0, then took on Swiss native Isabelle Aerny and finished the match 9-0, before beating tournament favourite German Bianca Siegmund 7-0.
In the final she finished off Spanish woman Marta Sanchez by armbar submission within two minutes. Throughout the tournament Úna did not concede a single point.
Trained under Sebastiao Torres, a judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, she trains between two gyms – Fight Academy Ireland in Belfast and Team Torres in Newry. Balancing a full-time job as a brand manager for First Trust Bank with looking after her three-year-old son, Úna credits the support of her family and team-mates to getting her tournament-ready.
