Doha: Ahlam Al Muhallal entered into the record books yesterday becoming the first Qatari women to participate in an international weightlifting event.
The 23-year-old, a CrossFit freak, saw action in the third Qatar International Cup Weightlifting in the 63kg category at the Marriott Hotel.
Ten other Qatari weighlifters are competing in the two-day event which ends today and is held alongside the GCC Youth & Junior Championships.
The annual event is organised by Qatar Weightlifting Federation (QWF) and Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). The other members of the Qatar squad are Fares Hassona, Ahmed Hassan Asheer, Abdullah Al Mohanadi, Khalid Al Hammadi and Hassona Hassona, all who are competing in the Qatar International Cup. Five home competitors Fares Hassona, Shbib Al Dousari, Qassem Al Merri, Hamdan Al Merri and Hamad Al Shahrani are vying for top honours in the GCC Youth & Junior Championships.
