Barb Herbert

Barb Herbert weighed 256 pounds. She was 34, and her legs and back ached all the time. At one point, Barb’s back gave out from the strain, and she spent a week in the hospital.

Family and friends would joke about her weight. Even complete strangers would make crude remarks. She grew sick of being laughed at; sick of being obese. So Barb Herbert made a change.

Determined to turn her life around, and to not only lose weight but regain her health, Barb joined a gym and began exercising.

A personal trainer placed Barb on a regiment of circuit training and cardio. 2 years, and 116 pounds later, she progressed into a split routine. But it was at this point that Barb Herbert came to a crossroads.

I then had to move across the country from Ontario to Alberta for work. By this time I was bored with my training and struggling to keep the weight off. Quite by accident, I ran into a bodybuilding trainer and signed on with him and his wife.

Over the next year, they helped me to increase my muscle mass and shed another 15 pounds to hit the stage at my first show in 2005 at 125 pounds. This made for a total weight loss of 131 pounds over a period of 3 years.

Barb Herbert lost 131 pounds over the course of 3 years. She also made it to the stage for her first bodybuilding competition. Barb is proof that you can not only turn your life around, but that you can also thrive.

Develop a support group of like-minded individuals, and ditch those people from your life who are negative or who hold you back in any way. Work on developing a strong, quiet resolve. It will get you where you want to go.
