women NBA

Ian Thompson, a writer for SI.com, a CNN Network site, asked David Stern (commissionerof the NBA) about the possibility of women playing in the NBA. David replied matter-factly, “Sure, I think that’s well within the range of probability.” Ian was sure to make note that in a previous conversation with the commissioner, that he told David he would be asking about the future of women in the NBA during the upcoming press conference.

Ian then specifically asked if it was something we could see in the next decade. David replied, “I think we might. I don’t want to get into all kinds of arguments with players and coaches about the likelihood. But I really think it’s a good possibility.”

The arguments for and against the idea are many. But I think at the end of the day, talent will prevail, and if the players can earn and keep their spot, where is the harm. I would think it would progress the sport, but I am sure egos would be crushed, and countless men’s masculinity would be threatened. Whats new?
