Katie Spotz, 22-years-old, has just become the youngest to row across an entire ocean alone, the Atlantic. It took her 70 days 5 hours 22 minutes to complete the 2,817-mile mission. It was a part of a fundraiser that successfully raised over $70,000. She could have completed the journey 8-days earlier but weather conditions caused her to go 400-miles out of the way. She had a hard time fighting the currents and staying wedged in her boat enough so she could find some sleep.

“Sleeping was a real problem,” Spotz said. “It took a toll to put out that much physical effort on very little rest.”

The New York Times reported: ” In the last decade, 110 rowboats have successfully crossed an ocean, according to the Ocean Rowing Society. Nearly as many rowboat crews, 102, tried and failed. One American, Nenad Belic, attempted to row solo across the Atlantic in 2001. He was lost at sea.”
