Kaitlyn Rooney had never imagined she would be on the All-American women’s rugby team, but that is exactly where she has landed. She followed her roommate to a meeting and ended up picking up the game at American University (picture above from game).

“My roommate signed up for an information session (for rugby) and I just went along with it,” said Kaitlyn in an interview. “The team was great, it was a good info session, and so I went for it. It’s been awesome ever since. For me, I was looking for something that I didn’t have to commit fully to, but was still competitive. Then it turned into a passion of mine and I decided to pursue higher levels of competition.”

She has landed a spot on the National Development program, the feeder team for the National Team, which is set to participate in the sport’s first-ever Olympics in 2016. Only time will tell if she will make history.
