Josee Morneau, 36-years-old, and Lori Pow, 48-years-old, started out as friends and co-workers. They then started training together and today, they are “healthy rivals” in the sport of arm wrestling, but it has been several years since they pulled against one another. The two Canadian’s met in the first round of the women’s division at the Manitoba Arm Wrestling Association for a much anticipated meeting. They each have world, Canadian and provincial championships wins on their resume.

The build up to the meeting was more exciting than the actual competition. Both women were a bit anxious about the meeting and Josee ended up committiing back-to-back fouls and handed Lori the win.

“A win’s a win,” Lori said. “It doesn’t matter the type of win you get.”

Josee collected her self and ended up beating Lori in the final and won the women’s right-hand crown. Lori walked away with the women’s left-hand title.

There wasn’t much chatter when the two women took the podium for their first meeting in years. Josee, who also competes in strong(wo)man competitions, says there was a reason for that but wasn’t willing to elaborate.

“There’s a few things that happened,” she said. “I still respect her.”
