Shanice Wiki may only be 17-year-old adolescent but her judo skills are quite mature. When asked about why she became involved in the sport her reasons were simple. “I just didn’t want to get bullied when I was a kid,” Shanice said. “I wanted to make sure I knew how to fight for myself. And there’s like an adrenalin rush when you have to fight people. It’s like, ‘oh my gosh’. It’s fun.”
Shanice is continually surprising opponents and spectators with her strength and skill. Her ability and accomplishments have her sights set on the 2016 Olympics. She is already winning tournaments against accomplished veterans and was named outstanding female of the tournament at the New Zealand Judo Championship. Her youth, passion and talent are signs her future is bright and the Olympics may very well be in her future!
