This energetic, bodybuilding enthusiast has become a bodybuilding icon in her own way, with her theatrical routines, and GIVE IT A GO attitude, at the age of 71 she is one of Palmerston North’s most recognised Body Builders, and a great inspiration to all those who happen to meet her. She was competing this past weekend in her 100th NABBA (National Amateur Body Building Association) show and the crowd of 260 responded with a rousing Mexican wave. Sloane works with Special Olympic powerlifters and Special Olympian Miha Chase performed an emotional haka for her. She is 71 years old and has four children and 10 grandchildren.

What Class do you compete in:
Usually Senior Physique 45+, but have also had a go in Senior Figure, and Open Physique
What got you into Bodybuilding:
Jim Pitt suggested it to me, I thought are you kidding!! But I did my first show and now I’m hooked!!
What do you enjoy about the sport:
A chance to travel all over the country to different shows, and meeting all sorts of different people.
How many shows do you do a year:
All of them!!, as many as I can, usually about 7 or 8 shows.

Veggies & Ice cream (but not together!)

In my spare time I like to:
Train at the gym, walking and biking, volunteer work with the Special Olympics Powerlifting, and spending time with my grandchildren

What’s your training routine:
4 Circuit Aerobic Classes a week, 6 Weight Training Sessions. I walk and bike every where, I’ve just got a car but I only use that if I absolutely have to!
Who has been the ‘standout’ bodybuilder for you:
I’ve always thought Mendenhal Mahe was awesome, and also the Japanese Man who came over for the 1998 Pro-Am….he was huge!

What advice would you give to people thinking of having a go at Body Building:
Just get out there and give it a go! And if you enjoy it….do it!
