18 November 2020 marked the 16th annual Guinness World Records Day.

Guinness World Records Day (GWR Day) is an annual celebration of record-breaking that sees thousands of people getting involved from across the globe.

Read on for a list of records broken in celebration GWR Day 2020, from the most magic tricks performed underwater in three minutes to farthest distance walking barefoot on LEGO® bricks.

On October 18 2020, Ren Keyu (China, b. 18 October 2006) not only celebrated his 14th birthday, but also received the Guinness World Records title for the tallest teenager (male) with a height of 221.03 cm (7 ft 3.02 in). Read more

Magician and serial record-breaker Martin Rees from Hertfordshire (UK) achieved the Guinness World Record title for the most magic tricks performed underwater in three minutes, managing an incredible 20 magic tricks. Read more

Fastest 100 metres solving a Rotating Puzzle Cube

Andrey Maslov (Russia) managed to solve a Rotating Puzzle Cube – while sprinting! He achieved this record in a speedy 20.91 seconds, in Ivanovo, Russia in celebration of GWR Day.

Mr. Cherry (aka Cherry Yoshitake, Japan) has achieved FIVE records on Guinness World Records Day 2020!

  • Most wet T-shirts put on in one minute -13
  • Most marshmallows caught with chopsticks in one minute (team of two) – 90 with Hideaki Kanehara (Japan)
  • Fastest time to apply 10 surgical masks -12.15 seconds
  • Fastest time to remove five Jenga blocks with a party blower in the nose – 46.96 seconds
  • Most nuts crushed by sitting down in one minute – 122

Shunichi Kanno (Japan) has achieved the Guinness World Record title for the most drink cans placed on the body using air suction.

Oldest person to paraglide tandem (male)

Driving past Humtou Mountain in Puli with his family, Yu Te-Hsin, a 105-year-old man, saw people paragliding and asked to stop and watch.

Serial record-breaker David Rush (USA) never misses an opportunity to break records and it seems this GWR Day is no different! He’s broken not one, not two, but THREE records!

  • Most juggling catches on a unicycle (blindfolded) – 463
  • Most juggling catches while on an unicycle in one minute – 450
  • Most grapes sliced on a balance board in one minute – 68

Tinuke’s Orbit

Professional roller skater Tinuke’s Orbit (aka Tinuke Oyediran, UK) has broken the record for most cartwheels on roller skates in one minute with 30 and the most spins on e-skates in one minute with 70 in celebration of Guinness World Records Day 2020. Read more

This record was achieved by KY Lim (Malaysia), in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He achieved a total of 20 disappearing cane illusions in one minute.

Ramkumar Sarangapani (India) has broken a staggering SIX Guinness World Records titles for GWR Day 2020!

  • Smallest pack of playing cards – 7 mm X 5 mm X 4.86 mm
  • Largest magnet sentence – 50,102 magnets (which read “I LOVE U.A.E”)
  • Largest magnet word – 50,020 magnets (which read “Dubai”)
  • Largest electronic greetings card – 12 square meters (129 ft² 24in²)
  • Largest Banknote Word – 3,040 banknotes (which read ” UAE”)
  • Largest Banknote Sentence – 5,005 banknotes (which read “GWR DAY 2020”)

Deena Shipwright most penalties in 24 hours

Most football (soccer) penalties taken in 24 hours (individual)

The most football (soccer) penalties taken in 24 hours (individual) is 7,876, and was achieved by Deena Shipwright (UK) in Saar, Bahrain.

This incredible achievement smashes the previous record which stood at 1,111 penalties.

The Chennai Hoops love breaking Guinness World Records titles and today was no exception!
  • Longest duration on inline skates while spinning three hula hoops – 6 min 7 sec, achieved by R S Tharun (India)
  • Most hula hoop rotation around the foot while lying down – 136, achieved by S. Kanishka (India)

Another member, M.S. Hasinie (India) broke a slightly different record to hula hooping – the most vehicle logos identified in one minute with a staggering 99.

Most poi air wraps in one minute

Gokunath Unique Talent Academy (GUTA)

It’s not just the Chennai Hoopers that are breaking records in Chennai, India! The Gokunath Unique Talent Academy have achieved three records of their own.

  • Most poi air wraps in one minute – 77, achieved by K. Gokulnath (India), pictured above
  • Most revolution with a 2kg Hula hoop in one minute – 144, achieved by K. Nagaraj (India)
  • Most rotations of a hula hoop by a team of three in oneminute – 66, achieved by S. Rianna Andrea, Andriya Varghese and A.S. Ishwarya (all India)

Most wakeboard rail airs completed in 30 seconds

This extreme sport record was broken by Omeir Saeed Omeir Yousef Almheiri (UAE), in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

He achieved 10 wakeboard rail airs – that’s one every three seconds!

Serial record-breaker Rocco Mercurio (Italy) has broken the records for the most billiard balls held in one hand (16) and the most poker chips balanced on one finger (200) in Villa San Giovanni, Reggio Calabria, Italy.

Not to be outdone by fellow Italian Rocco, Silvia Sabba (Italy) also achieved two records, the fastest time to build a 10 toilet roll pyramid (3.6 seconds) and the highest standing jump onto light bulbs (101.3 cm) – ouch!

Holding over 200 records, Silvio is no stranger to record-breaking. His son even achieved a record for the most rope crossovers (criss cross) while skipping on one leg in 30 seconds (49).

The fastest 50 m rope climb was achieved by Thomas Butler Van Tonder (South Africa) in Johannesburg, South Africa, with an incredible time of 3 minutes 19.68 seconds.

Most consecutive L-Seat straddle presses to handstand

Stefanie Millinger (Austria) achieved an incredible 402 consecutive L-seat straddle presses, in Salzburg, Austria.

This move requires incredible upper body strength and flexibility and Stefanie has proven she has both!

Most targets hit with a blowgun in one minute blindfolded

Anthony Kelly (Australia) has achieved the record for the most targets hit with a blowgun in one minute blindfolded with 11.

Competitive eater and multiple Guinness World Records title holder Leah Shutkever (UK) has broken two records for GWR Day:

  • Most chicken nuggets eaten in three minutes  – 775.1 grams
  • Fastest time to eat 15 Ferrero Rocher® – 2 min 1.7 sec

These records mark Leah achieving her 20 records in 2020 goal – congratulations!

Another talented record-breaker is Andre Ortolf (Germany), who holds many records and decided to break even more for GWR Day!

  • Most wet sponges thrown in 30 seconds (team of two) – 47, with Felix Lohse (Germany)
  • Fastest time to drink one litre of lemon juice through a straw – 16 seconds
  • Fastest time to drink one litre of lime juice through a straw – 16.82 seconds
  • Most baby food eaten in one minute – 1,609 grams (3 lb 9 oz)

Heaviest weight lifted with little fingers

Dariusz Slowik

Dariusz Slowik (Canada) is a former Canadian Champion in discus throw and a Commonwealth games bronze medalist. He decided to break records in Aarhus, Denmark, on GWR Day to raise money for charity.

  • Farthest horseshoe throw – 53.34 m (175 ft)
  • Most bench press with claps in one minute – 41
  • Heaviest weight lifted with little fingers – 105.67 kg (232 lb 15.39 oz)

Fastest vertical mile stair climbing (male)

Ryoji Watanabe (Japan) has achieved the record for the fastest vertical mile stair climbing (male) with a time of 1 hour 6 minutes 58 seconds.

The record was attempted at Tokyo Skytree, a broadcasting and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo.

Reaching a height of 634 m (2,080 ft), it holds the record for the tallest tower in the world.

Slovakian Pavel Trusov has broken both the most full extension punches in 1 minute (334) and the most full extension punches in 3 minutes (919).

His arms must have been seriously aching after his attempt!

Zaila Avant-garde is not your average 14-year-old. She’s a basketball pro who’s broken TWO record titles for Guinness World Records Day!

  • Most basketball bounces in 30 seconds (four basketballs) – 307 bounces
  • Most bounce juggles in one minute (four basketballs) – 255 bounces

Chad McLean

Utah-based Chad McLean stepped up this GWR Day to showcase his talent with bowling balls. This year, he aimed to do the seemingly impossible by attempting the most bowling balls held simultaneously – and broke the record with 16! That’s a lot of weight at once.

Chad also broke another record with the help of his friend Steve Kloempken for the tallest stack of bowling balls in three minutes by a team of two. Did you know bowling balls even stack?! Together, they managed to balance a perfect stack of 11 balls, breaking a record that has stood since 2001.

Over in London, Ontario, Canada, athlete Alexander Marchand brought the excitement with his incredible display of most full twist back somersault burpees in one minute (male).

Burpees are one of the hardest exercises moves to achieve, but adding a full twist backwards somersault brings this technique to the next level! After an exhausting 60 seconds, he managed to do a total of 9.

The most alternate skips by a pair in 30 seconds (one rope) is 71 and was achieved by Hijiki Ikuyama and Angora Soncho (Japan) in Meguro, Tokyo, Japan.

YouTuber L.A. Beast is most known for his speed eating record attempts, but this year for GWR Day he decided to do an incredibly challenging record for farthest distance walking barefoot on LEGO® bricks.

With a total counted distance of 3,886.20 m (12,750 ft), he managed to break the record (and maybe his feet!).

Most hula hoop rotations around the bum in three minutes

The most hula hoop rotations around the bum in three minutes is 400, and was achieved by Andrea M (UK) in London, Greater London.

Christian Rodriguez

Multiple record holder Christian Roberto López Rodríguez (Spain) didn’t just break records himself for GWR Day, but he got his family involved too!

  • Fastest mile in clogs – 6 min 45.34 sec, achieved by Christian
  • Fastest 100 Metres Sack Race – 25.96 sec, achieved Christian Rodriguez
  • Most basketball passes in one minute by a pair – 93, achieved by Christian and his brother David López Rodriguez. This equalled the record held by David Rush and Jonathan Hannon (both USA).
  • Most behind-the-back basketball passes in one minute – 65, achieved by Christian and his brother David.
  • Most dice caught in 30 seconds while blindfolded (team of two) – 45, achieved by Christian and his mother María Cedillo

Most bottle caps removed with the head in one minute

This rather painful looking record was broken by Prabhakar Reddy P (India), who holds many Guinness World Records titles.

He managed to remove 68 bottle caps using just his head!

Most table tennis ball bounces on a racket in one minute blindfolded

This record requires a great deal of concentration.

It was broken by Rishabh Jain (India) who managed a focused 146 bounces in one minute.

From keeping the table tennis ball on the racket for as long as possible to launching it as far away as possible!

This record was broken by Álvaro Martín Mendieta (Spain) who managed a whopping 14.86 m (48 ft 9.04 in).

Most clothes pegs (clothespins) on a beard

The beard king Joel Strasser (USA) made a return to record-breaking on GWR Day with his attempt for the most clothes pegs (clothespins) on a beard.

Joel broke the record with a staggering 359 pegs. He holds other records for items in his beard including Christmas baubles and straws.

Most arrows broken with the neck in one minute

It wouldn’t be GWR Day without Ashrita Furman (USA), one of Guinness World Records’ most prolific record-breaks of all time, taking part.

This year Ashrita chose the most arrows broken with the neck in one minute with 31.
