Lisa Koll, Iowa State University, was named the Honda Sports Award’s college female track and field athlete of the year. This year she set the collegiate record of 31:18.07 in the 10,000 meter, and she is a two-time NCAA champion.
“It’s pretty amazing to be in a place I never thought I would be in,” said Koll, an Iowa State senior. “To be put in a place with people I have always considered so prestigious is really something special. I think any time you’re voted as a great representative of your sport and as a great athlete, it shows that people have recognized your hard work. To be able to celebrate my last five years, especially this year, with a community, rather than just myself and my team is another thing that is kind of unique about this award.”
