IFBB Pro Sharon Marvel Has Passed

We recently learned that IFBB Pro Bodybuilder, Sharon (Arrildt) Marvel, has passed. One of the early pioneers of female bodybuilding, Sharon had an amazing physique which quickly propelled her to the pro ranks and made her a favorite amongst fans and judges.

Born in Brackley, Northamptonshire, England, April 14, 1964, Sharon began training in 1982. In 1986 she won both the Eastern Shore and the Maryland State Championships. She went on to win the lightweight and overall at the NPC Jr. Nationals in 1987 and in 1989 earned her IFBB Pro card by winning the middleweight class at the NPC Nationals. Sharon competed in several pro shows including 4 appearances in the Ms. Olympia, placing as high as 5th.

A long time friend and supporter of FemaleMuscle, Sharon also worked for us on Talklive for several years and developed a huge fan following.

Thank you for the years you shared with us through bodybuilding and for the wonderful memories we have of you. Rest in Peace Sharon, we will truly miss you.

Sharon Marvel was beautiful, graceful, and had a photo presence that few have had before or since. When she looked into the camera, you felt that you knew her, somehow, at some level. I shall miss her and am saddened at her passing far too early.

I trained with her in Pumping Iron Gym for years. Starting in the 1990’s. She had an outstanding physique and symmetry. I would star at her in amazement. She was a real pioneer of the sport. For a while we worked together also. Very sad. Thanks James for your comment and concern. There is no real information about her death. We are all still looking for answers.

Don’t know where you had gotten your information, but Sharon Marvel is not dead. She had played in as movie where her character had died. Thank you.

    No,

Sadly, she’s deceased. Curt James posted the info on the RxMuscle.com forum yesterday, and he got the confirmation from Dave Palumbo. No cause or even date of death given yet, though.

DKW and others, I heard the news on Heavy Muscle Radio as reported by Dave Palumbo, however he did not specify his source and I have not verified that sad news. Also, I deleted the thread I had posted on Rx as well as another thread I had posted on IronMagazineForums dot com. I would MUCH prefer to go by Craig Breuwet’s report. Again, I have not confirmed the death of anyone. I — in a knee-jerk, emotional reaction — re-posted the news I had heard. A wiser man than myself encouraged me to seek a more thorough verification and to delete the threads. Let us all hope that Sharon Marvel is alive and well.

Curt James got his info wrong Sharon Marvel is still alive, there would be concrete proof if she were deceased and there is not so that is why I know Sharon Marvel is still alive until there is concrete proof then I will know that is a lie about her untimely death. Thank you.

I went out with her several times. We kept in contact by e-mail but I have not heard from her in several months now. Would like a way to verify. Might have to use her real name to find true verification.

Late to this page. I watched her train at NYC Pumping Iron in the 1990s. So impressive. And a performer too – I remember her lip-synching a Salt n Pepa song while doing her posing and it was amazing.
