Charlotte Kalla, 22-year-old, Swedish cross country skier and new gold medalist made her country proud and left no room for debate about her placing. Charlotte won the 10k race in 24:58.4 minutes; 6.6 seconds faster than Smigun-Vaehi, the Estonian who won two golds at the 2006 Turin Games and 15.9 seconds faster than bronze medalist Marit Bjoergen of Norway.
“It feels crazy right now,” Kalla said. “I can’t believe I am a gold medalist.”
