Where are they now – Tina Lockwood

tl0

Tina Lockwood took the female Bodybuilding industry by storm in a series of competitions from 1991 to 1995. She won the heavyweight and overall categories of the Jan Tana Amateur in 1994. The following year she went on to compete at the USA Championships but placed a disappointing 10th. This was to be her last competition in the sport. Three years later in 1998 Tina graced the cover of Women’s Physique World Magazine and this was to be the last the Bodybuilding world would see of Tina.

Tina has just recently joined Facebook, so there are rumors of a return to the Bodybuilding scene in some capacity for the lady who shocked everyone 20 years ago.

Many fitness and particularly bodybuilders have two disparate selves: contest shape and ‘off season’. It takes a real dedicated fan to appreciate the off season version, which is not ‘cut’, defined, or very fit looking. When a competitor has only an ‘off season’ or heavy identity, they are thus limiting themselves to a much smaller audience. I must confess to having no interest in the full, ‘off season’ or heavy versions.

I recently found a facebook page on Tina. Some one had written a R.I.P. post. Does any one know if Tina is really gone? Hope it’s a mistake.

Tina is not dead; she also doesn’t have a Facebook page. That is someone who created it.

Tina was (is) the MOST beautiful female bodybuilder I have ever seen. Her body didn’t have any sharp points, just gorgeous curve after gorgeous curve. I always wondered if she was of Itialian or Greek heritage because of her beautiful olive to dark complexion.

One of my all time favorites in the world of female muscle. Tina came on the scene just as the very powers that governed and promoted women’s bodybuilding began to slowly strangle what they were supposed to guarding and nurturing to it’s well and long deserved fruition. They succumbed like most who had not the courage to stand up to the Christian rightwing misogyny that began it’s continuing war against real equality of the sexes. Women’ bodybuilding scares the crap out of them because it is the very real physical manifestation of the equality and even superior strength that sometimes a woman can achieve lb. for lb.. I have heard many ridiculous excuses for the demise of the sport and culture but by far and large the absolute WORST have been from Male bodybuilders and fighters. They place full blame on the women themselves for getting huge and challenging the dominance of mass muscle that men have enjoyed for so long. Poor scared little BOYS! I would like to see Tina and other women with the gift of genetics challenge and exceed the physique of their male counterparts! Then maybe the world will give them and all women the respect they deserve in this endeavor…..called life.
