Although bodybuilders are often be accused of having some form of body dysmorphia, often issues are greater within the general public. One very sad case was Ana Carolina Reston, who was a Brazilian fashion model who died in 2006. She started modeling at the age of 13 after winning a local beauty contest in her hometown.
In 2004 she was told by an agent that she was ‘too fat’, a criticism that led to her develop anorexia nervosa, with reports saying she ate a diet consisting only of apples and tomatoes.
She was eventually hospitalized for kidney malfunction due to anorexia and bulimia. After spending a few weeks in hospital, she died at only age 21. At the time of her death Ana weighed a mere 88lbs at a height of 5’8″.
