Mary Jacobson is more than a mother and? champion strongman. She has fought a much harder battle, one that doctors told her she would not win: Cancer. In 1995, just after finding out she had adenocarcinoma, a cancer originating in glandular tissues. She was given an 11 percent chance of survival and encouraged to say goodbye.
She wasn’t ready to go. After a 10 hour surgery and a two year coma,? she beat cancer and now, at 55-years-old, is fighting for her shot at the Worlds Strongest Women title.
Mary estimates, since her arrival in Strongman, she has competed 40-60 times. During that time, she has pulled items weighting thousands upon thousands? of pounds, but heaviest object? has been? a 500,000-pound train! She was able to pull it three feet. “It was the first time it was ever done by a woman,” she said.
This year was the first time NAS (North American Strongman) Women’s National Championships had a middle weight class for women. Mary took third place all around, a placing very admirable but she hopes to top!
