My name is Shana Martin and I am a 25 year old fitness competitor/professional lumberjack athlete/personal trainer/speaker from Madison, WI.
I spend my summers in the north woods (and traveling wherever ESPN hosts our contests) log rolling and boom running in events such as the ESPN Great Outdoor Games, STIHL Timbersport Series, and the Lumberjack World Championships.
In the fall my program changes to train for fitness competitions. I’ve been competing in various fitness contests since the age of 18.
My main cause in life is to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for Huntington’s Disease.
My mother is in her final stages of this dreadful disease. She has been in a nursing home for 11 years, and on a feeding tube for the last five. I have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. Although a test is available, I have not yet been tested. I am currently the leader of the Huntington’s disease Society of America’s National Youth Alliance. I spend a lot of time talking to younger people and their families on how to cope with the disease and being at risk. I was one of the opening speakers at the National Convention, and also lead several breakout sessions.
