Normally, political headlines would pass by me with little more reaction than glazed eyes, but when Jill Biden and Nancy Pelosi are packing USO care packages with Cosmo and Maybelline, I had to read on. Apparently, there were comments about the USO care packages having nothing for female soldiers,?
“Our warehouse was getting a lot of requests from female troops saying, ‘These are nice, but they have nothing specific for us. We don’t have anything we can shave with. We don’t have anything that will make us smell good. We don’t have anything that will help keep our nails manicured,’ ” said USO spokeswoman Patrice Cameau.
Leave it to Pelosi to break out? reading material for? ? “8 Things Guys Notice Instantly,” “Hot New Party Dresses” and “Mind Tricks That Melt Pounds.” The packages have been met with mixed feelings. Many women appreciate the thought, and some think they have worked too hard to be one of the guys, only to be sent: Maybelline mascara, and lipstick, mineral makeup, Lady Speed Stick, botanical facial bars, and? eye masks, in pink? camouflage makeup bag.
I know I would like to be sent a pink camo make-up bag filled with girlie stuff, but that is EXACTLY why I am not in the military. I also don’t think sending girl oriented care? packages? is a bad idea, I just wonder if there should have been a middle ground…it’s a BIG leap to go from the standard-issue (beef jerky, raisins, toothbrush ect.) to makeup.
