Brandie says:
I am a 33 year old personal trainer who just finished my first year as a figure competitor. I only started working out when I was 29.
I’ve never been an athlete and I hated anything that required effort and made me sweat. I’ve always been on the slender side, but carried weight in my lower body. As I headed into my 30’s, I saw that it was time to change my habits. I joined a gym and piddled around for a year or two.
Finally, a trainer took pity on me and showed me what a real workout was like. Whoa! After six months with her, I was addicted. How could I have hated this so much before? I couldn’t believe the transformation in my body, mind and self esteem. For someone who was weak, insecure and unsure of who I was, I have transformed into a powerful and strong female that doesn’t back down without a fight anymore.
Because of this, I decided to leave my job of thirteen years of doing nails, to become a personal trainer, and pass on what I have learned to others.
Becoming a pro figure competitor has become my goal and I won’t stop until I’ve reached the top.
I won 2nd place at the Vulcan classic in Figure class B 2007. And 2nd place at the Southern Classic in Figure class C 2007. This win also qualified me for Figure Nationals.
Depending on how much muscle I can put on in my shoulders and legs, I am hoping to go to Jr. Nationals in 2008. The work is hard, but the win is what drives me. I’m also hoping to get a figure seminar going in Jackson, Tennessee sometime in the future for women who are wanting to get into the sport.
This has become a passion for me, and I love sharing what I know with others.
My favorite quote that keeps me going is, “Somewhere in the world, someone is training when you are not. When you compete with them, they will win.”
