When you’re feeling out of control financially, it’s easy to let good habits and routines go out the window and resort to a vice or two. But this is not the time to smoke or drink more, Dr. Epperly advises. You could blow the budget and maybe cause real problems down the line.
What you can do: Keep eating a healthy diet, get plenty of exercise and get a good night’s sleep. “All three of these low-cost treatments have proven health benefits for you,” Dr. Epperly said. And all that healthy living may help you relieve some of the stress you’re feeling about money. [source]
This is great advice. I have first-hand experience with both sides of the coin. When I was struggling financially in early 2007, I found that I was hurting more than I needed to because I had let my healthy habits slide. Instead of buying healthy food at the grocery, I would buy pre-made meals or fast food. I lost a lot of sleep as well. All of this affects your mental and physical well-being.
Luckily I learned my lesson though, and eventually realized that the cause of my bad health was entirely self-imposed. I started running again, eating healthy, and getting more sleep. It’s not rocket science.
