Women’s MMA Gaining Respect?

News, Video — By LeslieRae on October 27, 2009 at 10:33 pm

Men bleed and crowds roar, while ticket sales soar. Women step in the ring, and if they are attractive people stare but the moment they begin to preform, to gain respect as fighters, audiences gasp. It has been a slow journey for women to earn spots on ligitament fight cards. Ring girls? sure. Ring bait? maybe.

This week at the Harborside Event Center in Ft. Myers, two women have landed a fight on the South Florida Cage Wars Halloween Bashing fight card. Miami’s Jessica Aguilar and Houston’s April Coutino will make another stride in establishing women’s acceptance in MMA.

This highlight video features Jessica Aguilar through training and fights.

I’m going to watch this fight. It’s been way too long.

I used to watch the women fight at the grappling matches. Just as interesting as the guys fighting. This was about 10 years ago… and there weren’t many women fighting like this.
The never seemed to get much attention. They were put off in the corner where no one could see them fight. Hope this is changing now. Looking forward to watching this match. These women fight as hard as the guys.
