At the age of 18 Ericca Kern discovered she had an eating disorder. In 1985 Ericca was attending the University of Minnesota Duluth and found a small weight room. In 1992 Ericca started to train for her first show, the Gopher State championship. There she placed first in the heavyweight class, and also won the overall championship. During the next four years
Ericca gained more success at local and national competitions. Finally in January 1995 Ericca moved her family to Irvine, California and competed at the 1995 IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships. Ericca placed first in the heavyweight class and won the overall championship, earning her pro card.
