Watch Lori Whoop Some Butt

Lori shows us all what happens when she is challenged by anyone – in business as well as in life. It might just be better to concede at the start, but where’s the fun in that? High above Manhattan in the common room of an upscale apartment, Lori wrestles a tough guy from the Middle East. Not scripted, all real, you will be surprised for sure. Did you know Lori studied wrestling at Gleason’s gym, Brooklyn?

Fancy Footwork Isn’t Just for Soccer

The Toe Wrestling World Championships have come to a close in England. The female champion is once again Lisa ‘twinkle toes’ Shenton and the men’s champion, Alan ‘Nasty’ Nash, made his reign seven years now with this years victory. Toe wrestling is basically, two ‘fighters’ sit across from each and rest their feet on a ‘toedium.’ They interlocked toes and battle it out to force one of their opponent’s feet to touch the toedium’s frame. In regulated matches, both competitors must keep their other foot in the air, with both palms on the ground and their heel firmly grounded during the match.

Here is a video of a private toe wrestling match, but it show you the basics of toe wrestling. However, it is no light matter. The competitors at the World Championships take there sport seriously!

Women Holding Hands to Pin Opponents

During the Arm Wrestling Championship at the 40th annual Patterson Apricot Fiesta, 70 contestants from around the state took their turns standing at a small, wooden table on a square wooden platform. The explosive bursts of strength gathered spectators in a rin around the stage and in three sets of bleachers to watch competitors go head-to-head, well arm-to-arm actually. The matches ran continuously, most taking only seconds to complete.

Competitors gripped their opponents’ hands with one hand and pulled on handles with the other, their faces distorted in maximum effort trying to pin each other. Sometimes the speed of the contests surprised first-time spectators.

“Was that it?” asked on-looker Sara Fielder after one match. “Don’t blink, or you’ll miss it,” she said to a friend.
Judy Dodd (pictured above) won the women’s open title in the 0-to-140-pound division, and Sarah Carter took the women’s open 141-and-over competition.
Arm wrestling is no longer simply a barroom pastime; there are several national associations for amateurs and professionals.

Roxanne Modafferi is Taking the Ring Again Next Month

The next fight in Strikeforce’s prospects-driven “Challengers” series looks to be Strikeforce women’s welterweight champion Sarah Kaufman (11-0 MMA, 3-0 SF) against fellow 135-pounder Roxanne Modafferi (15-5 MMA, 0-1 SF). Roxanne just fought in a battle against Tara LaRosa and won hands down. It will be interesting to see if she has the same dominating power against Sarah Kaufman (pictured above). This would be Roxanne’s second time fighting for Strikeforce. The first time she was a replacement fighter for Erin Toughill and moved up a weight class and ended up losing in a first round submission to Marloes Coenen.

This would be Sarah’s fourth straight Challengers appearance, and she has not fought since her unanimous-decision win over Takayo Hashi in February which earner her the first-ever Strikeforce women’s welterweight belt and extended her undefeated streak to 11 fights. The first 8 were by knockout and the last three (all in Strikeforce) were by decision.

She began training again and entered the U.S. Open Women’s Freestyle Wrestling Championship. It didn’t take long after she showed up for the whispers to turn to internet searches. The committee was forced to hold an impromptu meeting to decide rather she would be allowed to compete. They came back in agreement. Donna would wrestle and make history. The only match she won was the first, but she won a bigger battle with herself.

“When I won that match,” Donna said, “it was a sense of euphoria, relief and accomplishment unlike anything else that I have ever experienced. It made it all worthwhile. And because I did it as Donna, it was the most honest I have ever been on the mat. I didn’t need to be the best. I didn’t need to be #1. My biggest opponent going into this match wasn’t Iris Smith, it wasn’t the people sitting there at the scoring tables. My biggest opponent was my heart, and between my ears, and those are opponents I know I can vanquish.”

MMA: Becoming A Women’s World

Women’s interest in MMA is growing beyond watching fights and carrying “Round 1” cards. Women are becoming active participants and proving that their capability and skills are nothing short of impressive!

Five months ago, Bernice Parson, 26-years-old, and Nancy Cook, 20-years-old, started taking a self-defense class, but it soon became much more (Pictured: Bernice in pink sleeves and Nancy in all black).

“You look at other sports like football, and I understand it’s a sport, but really it’s a game,” said Cook. “With fighting it’s more real. You have to prove yourself, and it’s a great challenge.”

The two women are looking to compete next year, but since they are residence in Maryland, where the competition of the sport is illegal, they will have to travel to a neighboring state.
