Tara LaRosa Gallery is Here

All you have to do is ask and FemaleMuscle makes it happen. Tara LaRosa, MMA superstar, has made quite the name for herself and shows no signs of slowing down. In the above picture, Tara is choked out Amanda Buckner in Bodog’s first women’s MMA match. In the video below, Tara talks to Fox about the struggle to gain notoriety in mixed martial arts.

Australia Dropping The Ropes And Entering The Cage

Alex Chambers, 30-years-old, will be making history on May 29, 2010. She will be stepping into the cage at Australia’s first, legal, women’s professional cage fight. Australia began a formal regulation of combat sports, which is what cage fighting is considered in Australia, through the Combat Sports Act that took effect January 1, 2008. The State Government supports women’s involvement in these sports and has finally legalized their participation.

Alex has been involved in one type of martial arts or another since she was 8-years-old, but she looks forward to this step in her professional career.

“Being in the cage adds another dimension to fighting,’’ she said. “You can use the cage to help your techniques like pinning your opponent to the cage so you can take them down.’’

Tara LaRosa: MMA Superstar

Tara LaRosa is an incredible fighter and has been virtually unbeatable in her division. For the past four straight years, she hasn’t let any fight go to decision. With dominating submissions and powerful striking she has been called the top P4P fighter in the world. Critics attribute part of her success to her sub-parr opponents. In her last four fights, -she has fought fighters with dismal records such as 3-4, 7-2, 7-2 and 2-1.

Once she proves herself against worthy contenders, her legacy will not be in question.

Sarah Kaufman Undefeated in Strikeforce

MMA fighter, Sarah Kaufman (10-0), recently had an interview with Rick Rockwell, a writer for Examiner.com. The 5’5″ 141 pounder had some pretty interesting thing to say about her entry into the world of MMA. On February 26th she will put her undefeated record on the line  and fight for the Strikeforce Women’s Welterweight (135 pound) Championship against Takayo Hashi. Sarah predicts the fight stopping in the 5th round with another win and the title.

How did you go from Ballet to MMA?
They opened up a place right below my dance studio. So, I tried it out to see if I liked it. I fell in love with it and everything that was associated with it. One class wasn’t enough. Then two classes weren’t enough. And finally I wanted to do it all the time.

How long were you a dancer?
I’ve done ballet for 17 years. I’ve also done Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Tap. I joined a dance company when I was 8.

Is there anything that you took from your Ballet training into your MMA training?
I don’t know how transferable it was. With dance, there was a lot of dedication, preparation, and a commitment to constantly improve. There was also a lot of balance and strength work. So, that’s what I probably took from ballet into MMA.

Did the rigors of dancing help you build up a tolerance for pain and fatigue?
The exhaustion from dancing all the time taught me how to perform through being hurt and tired. You don’t want to let the crowd know that you are hurt or tired. And when you are in MMA you don’t want to show your opponent anything

Valerie Coolbaugh’s Big Bully Winner

The Big Bully No-gi Grappling Tournament that took place in Evansville, Indiana last weekend gave Valerie Coolbaugh a winning record of 3-2 in MMA. She won the women’s division by securing a submission in each of her matches. Her last fight against Linda Cunningham was also by submission. Next month, in Philadelphia, Valerie will be facing MMA superstar Tara LaRosa (17-1). I don’t know about you but I am pulling for the underdog! Tara also had a fight this past weekend in Phoenix, AZ, but she went uncontested.
Here is a video documentary about MMA fighter Vicious Valerie Coolbaugh of Mount Olive, Illinois.

Bodybuilder, Fitness, Wrestler, MMA…

Lisa Marie Varon does it all….

Known now as WWE wrestler ‘Victoria’, Lisa is a former bodybuilder and IFBB pro fitness competitor who will add another feather to her cap – mixed martial arts fighting. Lisa has been with the WWE since 2000 after retiring from the competitive stage.

Lisa started as a bodybuilder, and won her first contest in 1995. She then switched to fitness, and earned her IFBB pro card at the 1999 NPC Team Universe.

Lisa Marie Varon is heading to the world of mixed martial arts.

Varon, perhaps better known as a World Wrestling Entertainment “diva” named Victoria, plans to make her pro MMA debut in the next year.
Despite Varon’s recent debut with WWE rival Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), Stewart said the nonrestrictive contract will allow his client to wrestle and compete in MMA simultaneously. (In fact, Lashley also recently signed a contract with TNA and debuted with the Spike TV-televised promotion back in April.)

While Varon is certainly marketable and athletic, she has one factor working against her: her age. At 38 years old, she will likely have a limited shelf life in MMA.

Kaitlin Young (Pictures) sat before the television cameras to answer questions about her fight with Gina Carano (Pictures) this Saturday for EliteXC “Primetime” on CBS. The ESPN crew was working on a piece surrounding Carano, the American Gladiator, and whether she was tenured enough after just five fights to earn a spot representing mixed martial arts before what could become the biggest audience ever to watch the sport.
