Where’s my Hummer!

One of my favorite memories is of being at the Arnold Classic and watching the winner Yaxeni Oriquen cause Arnold Schwarzenegger to end up onstage stuttering and obviously uncomfortable.

The Arnold Classic has a huge prize disparity between male and female bodybuilders, with the males also receiving a brand new Hummer vehicle. After winning, Arnold went to ask her all the normal questions and Yaxeni quickly gripped the microphone from him and promptly said “Now I want to know where my hummer is?”

Arnold really had no good reply to the question and was left just fuddling through, to much of the crowd’s bemusement.

Wrestling Fiasco leads to Chyna 2000 Breasts

Known primarily for her wrestling days in the WWE as “Chyna”, Joan Laurer was billed as the ‘Ninth Wonder of the World’. A former bodybuilder, she also posed twice for Playboy in addition to her wresting career.

In one of her rough and tumble wrestling matches, one of her breast implants ruptured during a match with male wrester Savio Vega.  She needed corrective surgery so a plastic surgeon specially designed custom implants for her which were then named after her: “Chyna 2000s.”

The Chyna 2000s implants became the model for specialized breast implants which are customized for large framed women and female bodybuilders. As the photo shows, the Chyna 2000s seem to be a great new design…

Cindy Phillips to Postpone Pro Debut

Fans of Cindy Phillips, the Canadian IFBB pro bodybuilder who was one of the youngest ever to achieve pro status, will have to wait till next year to see her make her pro debut. Cindy posted on her blog that due to an injury she has pulled out of shows this year, but plans to take the stage in 2009. She had planned to do both the Europa and Atlantic City pro shows this year after winning her pro card in 2007.

Having the unique position of being born on Halloween, in addition to her bodybuilding career Cindy is a student majoring in criminology. The immensely popular bodybuilder showcases not only a stellar physique, but possesses major sex appeal that crosses many boundaries. Good luck to Cindy with her injury.
 

2008 Europa Pro Champions

The IFBB Europa Super Show was held on Aug 15 -16th in Texas. With over 50 females competing, the show showcased IFBB pros from all over the world.

Veteran competitor Tracey Greenwood won the fitness division, with Bernadette Galvin taking top honors in the figure class. Jennifer Sedia won the lightweight female bodybuilding class, with Sherry Smith winning the heavyweight class.

ShemuscleRaw.com model Marcy Porter placed a very credible 10th out of the field of 38 figure competitors, with fellow shemuscleraw model Shannon Meteraud who made a last minute decision due to injury to compete in figure instead of fitness, and then barely missing an Olympia qualification in 4th place.  

One of the biggest female bodybuilders on the scene – Jana Linke-Sippl, who competes at close to 190lbs, came in 5th.

Russian Vaulting to New Heights

Pole vaulting seems to be one of those understated sports we seem to only really realize exists every four years at the Olympics, and then we marvel at the great heights reached as athletes hurtle themself in the air.

In the 2008 Olympics, Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbaeva became the only woman to have ever vaulted over the five-meter mark, clearing 5.05 meters.

In the process she broke her own world record to win the gold medal in Beijing. Yelena went into the competition as the favourite as well as the defending Olympic champion after winning at the 2004 Athens games.

The 26 yr old Russian is a former gymnast who switched to the vaulting pole when she was 15. A double world and triple European champion already, Yelena’s 2008 Olympic win makes her the first female pole vaulter to win consecutive gold medals.

‘Hooked: Muscle Women’ is a documentary produced by MSNBC, which says the program ”puts female bodybuilders on the psychiatrist’s couch (figuratively speaking) to get to the core of why they push their bodies to the limit.”

Melissa Marie Dettwiller is a female bodybuilder from the United States.

She was born on November 12, 1977 in Houma, Louisiana, and began training for bodybuilding when she was 15 years old. Until August, 2005, Melissa had been living in New Orleans, but she and her husband lost their home during Hurricane Katrina. She currently lives in the Houston, Texas, area.

Melissa stands 5’2″ and competes at a bodyweight of 134 lb. Her early contest history consisted mainly of regional shows. She made her first National-level appearances in 2005, coming second in her class at the Junior Nationals, and tenth at the USA Championship.
