Different Training Needed for Different Body Types. What body type are you?

It is important for you to stick to the basics until you get to know how your body responds to weight training. People do not respond the same exact way to training and what works for one type will not necessarily work for another. One method of categorizing body types recognizes three different physical types and it is called “somatotypes”.

The ectomorph: short upper body, long arms and legs, long narrow feet and hands, and very little fat storage. This body type has a narrow chest and narrow shoulders and long, thin muscles.

The mesomorph: large chest, long torso, solid muscle structure and very strong.

The endomorph: short musculature, round face, short neck , wide hips, and heavy fat storage.

No one is totally one type but a combination of all three types. Any body type can be developed with the correct training and nutrition however people with different body types will need to approach their training with different objectives, even though they may all have the same goals.

Lori BraunI am often asked why I have put so much time, effort and money into building this site. What exactly has motivated me to dedicate practically all my waking hours to Femalemuscle, scouring the world for news about strong, muscular, and sexy women to inspire us all?

Here is a brief history on my love, fascination, and adoration of Femalemuscle.

At 17, my brother gave me some 20 lb dumbbells and I started lifting them and noticed changes to my body. Immediately my breasts got smaller and more proportionate to the rest of me. I was very pleased by new look. Even before I picked up these weights, I was very strong. I was always more muscular than the other girls. After I starting litfing, I began to notice other in-shape women, dancers, and athletes and coveted their muscular and perfect physiques. The next defining for me came when I purchased a muscle magazine with Cory Everson on the cover. WOW!  I was hooked. She was gorgeous with incredible muscles and strength. THAT’s what I wanted to look like.

Liza Reichenberger Pro Natural Bodybuilder a.k.a. Herculiza

Liza Reichenberger, 50-years-old this week, is a dynamic woman and is widely known as Herculiza, a very fitting name. She is involved in so many aspects of the industry is hard to know if she ever sleeps! She has been competing in bodybuilding since the 1980′s and her physique keeps getting better and better! In an interview she shared her entrance into the sport, even if her journey would be unsupported by the people closest to her.  

“I went into bodybuilding because all my friends said I should,” explains Liza, “because of the way I was built.  But before lifting a single dumbbell, I had already entered several arm-wrestling contests in local college nightclubs, where I won cases of beer for myself and my friends…My parents and family have never supported my bodybuilding career. They felt that I attracted the wrong sort of men, and thought my fitness modeling was sordid and embarrassing.”

It is a blessing to the industry that she overcame the negativity to be one amazing women who advocated the beauty of strong female muscle. Enjoy this gallery showcasing recent shoots all the way back to early competitions!
