Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia vs. Debi Laszewski

Iris Kyle was, in my opinion and the judges, the clear cut winner of the 2010 Ms. International. But what separated second from third? Yaxeni Oriquen-Garcia (blue suit) took maid of honor while Debi Laszewski (red suit) trailed at third. It is time for Female Muscle to take a look at these women side by side. It won’t be the same as being there because so much of the judging, fair or not, depends on how the athlete is hitting the pose at the exact  moment the judges eyes are on them. That is why there is NO room to relax on stage. From the time you walk out from the curtain, you are being judged. For as long as it takes an athlete to “get int0 the pose,”the judge could have already documented their score and moved on to the next competitor.

Now, these are only my opinions based on what I see in the pictures presented. Above all, I would like to make it clear these two women are in the top echelon of women bodybuilders in the world.

It appears that Yaxeni had better developed arms and a smaller waist. I also think Yaxeni’s suit is less distracting. Debi seems to be wearing a full coverage support suit which, to me, makes her torso look wide.

This back pose isn’t as fair to judge because we can’t see Yaxeni’s legs, but I like the detail in Debi’s back better! The striations in her delts and rhomboids are insane. It may just be the angle, but it aappears like Debi’s back to waist ratio is bigger (her back is much wider than her waist).

In this shot, Debi has done better job bringing out her quads, but from the looks of Yaxeni’s left quad, she got caught in pre-flex action. Yaxeni’s suit makes her torso look much better than Debi’s which goes to show you how important suit choices are in a competition. Yaxeni has wonderful muscle bellies and does a great job at presenting her physique.

Both women deserved to be recognized for their dedication to the sport, their amazing physiques and keeping women’s bodybuilding alive and beautiful.

Mindi Smith, First Arnold, Fourth Show

Mindi Smith is a blond bombshell to the very heart of the term. She is breath taking, and it is no wonder she, up until the Arnold, had never placed anything other than first. Before training for her IFBB career, she kept an active lifestyle by taking ballet, jazz, tap, gymnastics classes, running cross country, track and field, basketball, and volleyball. She is also no stranger to the stage. If you watch the HBO series Entourage, you may have seen her as a Beverly Hills Pedestrian or perhaps on the Spike TV show, Mananswers. But that’s not all, Mindi has also appeared in commercials for AXE Body Spray (seen below), Power Platform and 6 PakJak Crunch & Cur among other fitness DVD’s.

Mindi entered one local show, won. Entered her first national show and pro qualifier, Nationals, won. Entered her first Pro Show, won. And now, she came in 6th at the 2010 Arnold Classic. I’d say this women is on the fast track to the top of the industry and there are some who would say she is already there. Time will tell. As only her fourth show, I am sure she will develop and blossom even more!

Iris Then Or Now

I was looking at a pic of Iris this year and thought how nice she looked, not my favorite suit but she was amazing. Curiosity struck me and I wonder how many others like the “new Iris”? I prefer her hair, make up and think her muscularity looks less rough and more polished.

Larissa Reis Top Six Ms. International Figure

I had the joy of meeting Larissa Reis backstage in Atlantic City. She was competing in figure and I in fitness but we used the same MUA (make-up artist) and we got to talk. She is such a sweet girl with an accent that can make any one swoon! What you may not know about this Brazilian beauty is that she went to college for tourism, hated the desk job and went to a casting call for Playboy. It is no stretch to find out she made it. As a playmate, she saw as advertisement with Monica Brant and knew right then that her body and face belonged in the IFBB.

She began competing in 2008 and by 2009 had won her first IFBB Pro show, Atlantic City, and took a trip to the Olympia where she did not place but her reign is just beginning. Keep your eye on this one. Until then, let your eyes take in this workout video and picture gallery.

RESULTS: Arnold 2010 Winner: Kai Greene

This just in from the show: Kai Greene wins the Arnold! More details to follow…

Here’s Kai’s photos from his 2009 win. New gallery coming soon! <– opens in a new tab/window

Kai says “I was born July 12th in Brooklyn, NY. At the age of six, I became a ward of the state of New York due to a problematic home environment. For the next ten years, I would be in transitional placement moving from several foster homes to institutional placements. It was within this environment I found weight training as my refuge.

Deep inside of my soul, there resided many talents that few people were aware of most importantly my burning desire to be a visual artist. My two worlds would eventually meet and interconnect as my own body became my subject of study. I became my own living model. I utilized my own physique to gain a greater understanding of space and movement, creating works of art that became increasingly detailed and complex over time.”
