News — By Patricia on May 5, 2009 at 2:13 pmSerena Williams didn’t shy away from modestly and broke it right down: she says she’s No. 1 even though the women’s tennis rankings indicate otherwise. Dinara Safina of Russia overtook Williams in the rankings two weeks ago.
We all know who the real number one is,” Williams told a news conference at the Italian Open on Monday. “Quite frankly, I’m the best in the world.”
Williams does have 10 Grand Slam titles, while Safina has zero. “She can say this because she won many more Grand Slams than me,” the 23-year-old Safina said. “But she’s also older than me so she has more experience. So let’s see when I’m her age how many titles I have and then we can say.”

Serena’s right. I’d bet on her every time if she was playing Safina.
Rankings, at least I know in bodybuilding, are pretty off the wall. In bodybuilding you get bumped up just for competing, so it skews the accuracy…
