In a tale of complete and utter failure Andrew Collyer was convicted of fraud and making off without payment after his plan to sneak broken glass into his restaurant meal to get a freebie backfired.

On the evening of November 8 Andrew and his date went into White’s Seafood and Steak Bar in the UK and ate dinner. The restaurant manager was then called over and showed some glass in the meal and was told it had cut the woman’s mouth, which had blood on it.

In a one in a million coincidence, earlier in the night restaurant owner Alex White overheard a conversation between Collyer and his date and noticed she was trying to break some glass with her foot. He asked what they were doing and he said they were going to get a free meal. He called his restaurant later on to see if there had been an incident involving glass and food and police were alerted.

The plan for a freebie turned out to be pretty expensive and embarassing dinner, as after his conviction for fraud he was court ordered to pay £209.45 [$285 US] in fines and compensation.
