Marilyn Monroe Lifting Photos..

marilyn-monroe-lift-weights.jpg

Well before her time, screen legend Marilyn Monroe was reported to have always maintained a regime of weightlifting and regular exercise. Visitors reported finding gym equipment in the corner of her living room. At a time before running was a popular for exercise, let alone for women, Marilyn is said to have regularly partaken in early morning jogs through the back streets of Beverly Hills. Marilyn Monroe was 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighed 128 pounds.

Retro Photographs from Pam Franklin

pam_franklin_phixr.jpgI remember purchasing a black and white tv some 20 years ago and being asked by the salesperson if I was planning to view reruns of The Twilight Zone. This photo is from the homespun website of Texas female bodybuilder Pam Franklin, who appears to date it from around 1986. I think that was the last time that the New York Mets won the World Series

Pam: “I was born and raised in Texas. I grew up around Corpus Christi, TX, which is where I first started working out seriously. My favorite body part to workout is back. I am married with two children. My husband, Darrell, has always helped me with my training. My children are competitive athletes. My son attends college and my daughter is an honor student and Fitness competitor.”

Monica Brant. Deadlift. Thong

1998 Fitness Olympia champion and now figure icon Monica Brant shown below in a retro video deadlifting 135lbs.

Is a thong practical workout gear? I think not, but with a booty like Monica’s you can get away with it…

Kay Baxter: Tribute Gallery

Kay Baxter is unarguably a vital contributor and pioneer to women’s bodybuilding and even fitness. She was fearless and bold, and we love all of her influences!

Sally McNeil: A Tribute

April 1996; Sally McNeil was sentenced to 19 years to life for the shotgun slaying of her husband Ray McNeil. Sally was and continues to be one of the most beloved and best known bodybuilders among the female ranks of a sport which is increasingly moving away from the drug fueled Narcissism of its recent Silver Age towards a more fitness oriented display of health and prowess.

Her career as a professional bodybuilder was barely building up steam as she strenuously supported her husband’s goals; to be the best, to rise above the inconsequential and the fleeting, to achieve world fame as an actor and action hero.

Unfortunately, what was hidden behind ambition was rage; a confusing mix of jealousy and admiration, worship, distrust and betrayal. Ray McNeil had taken to beating his wife, in public and in private. The scars were visible, the bruises and broken bones obvious. People were concerned, Sally was afraid and Ray thought he could get away with murder.

Sally had no such thought in her mind. Please enjoy this gallery followed by a collection of Sally’s poetry

One of the Originals: Gladys Portugues

Gladys Portugues better known now for being the wife of action flick actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, but to many in the physique community she would be better known as a bodybuilder and for her exotic beauty.

Gladys said she saw Rachel McLish on television winning the Ms. Olympia title and was inspired to start her own bodybuilding and weight training regimen. Her best placings were 7th in the 1984 IFBB Ms. Olympia, and 8th the following year at the Olympia.

Back in Time – 1966

The NABBA Miss Bikini was one of the first physique contests for women, and debuted in 1966. In many ways this started the lead into modern day female bodybuilding and figure as we know it. The contest was won by Elizabeth Lamb of England pictured below…
