Chizevsky was born in 1968 in Mattoon, Illinois, and was raised in Decatur. Chizevsky was a multi-sport star in high school. In addition to participating in volleyball, basketball, and cheerleading, she ran the 100, 400, 800 relay, and mile relay, threw the shot and discus, and did the long jump. She then attended Southern Illinois University, where she studied to be a paralegal. While in college, she joined the dance squad and participated in aerobics. After a couple years of dance and aerobics, a friend convinced her to try bodybuilding. Despite no training, diet, or preparation, she finished second in her first show, the 1989 NPC Tri-State, competing at 121 pounds.

Bodybuiding career

Chizevsky earned her pro card by winning the 1992 IFBB North American Championship, competing at 147 pounds. She had moderate success in her first few years of pro competition, including winning the 1993 Ms. International, but the Ms. Olympia title eluded her. Chizevsky finally unseated six-time defending champion Lenda Murray in 1996, and started a four year reign of her own. Over the years she continued to gradually add size to her 5′8″ frame; at the 1997 Ms. Olympia, she competed at 157 pounds. Chizevsky decided to retire from bodybuilding after winning the 1999 Ms. Olympia, amid criticism that she had led the sport into an era of ultra-masculine female contestants.[citation needed] Pressured by the Weider organization to resign her contract as a bodybuilder and recontract as a figure competitor, she gave up much of her muscle gains and began competing in fitness and figure competitions in 2001 with only limited success.

Between 1979 and 1992 she worked first as a technician, and then was promoted to engineer. Valentina began bodybuilding in 1988, and in 1992 she changed careers and became a personal trainer. Bodybuilding career

Biography

Andrulla is a 1st Dan black belt in judo, having started out in the sport at age 11. Before that she loved to grapple with the boys in the neighbourhood out on the streets near her home. She made the British junior squad and even wanted to try out for the Olympic Games. She decided to start lifting weights only to help her out in her judo, but quickly realized that she was extremely strong for her size. She also developed her body at a prodigious rate.

Her most notable bodyparts are her arms (in 1996, at a bodyweight of 145 lb, they measured 17 inches) and her traps, which she says developed large and early from a former training partner and boyfriend who had her lifting heavy right from the start. At a height of 5′3″, her contest bodyweight has typically been around 135 lb.

In 1996, Andrulla was named Women’s Physique World’s European Bodybuilder of the Year. She won the Ms. Olympia lightweight title in 2000, and just missed retaining the title the following year. Recently in 2002 Blanchette was schedule to compete Ms. International, but was disqualified on Thursday night for not signing a contract to compete.

Andrulla lives on Long Island in New York with her husband: Richard Baron Cohen, the owner of the world famous Twinight Collection of early 19th century neo-classical porcelain and portrait miniatures, her dog Swansea, and Macaw parrot Joey. She spends most of her time playing the game of Chess. Her plan is to become a Chess Master and compete at the international level.

Hulking Out & Shirt Ripping http://femalemuscle.com/news/hulking-out-shirt-ripping/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/hulking-out-shirt-ripping/#comments Wed, 18 Nov 2009 15:19:08 +0000 Lori Braun http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9634 MzDevious

Ever since the Incredible Hulk appeared in the pages of Marvel comics, people have dreamt of growing instant, explosive muscles, tearing their shirts off and going “Green”. Hulk Hogan added to this and tore his shirt off before each wrestling match. Even Clark Kent rips open his shirt to reveal Superman beneath. This process is copied by most 5 year old boys.

Enter the female bodybuilder to take it to the next level. Put on a shirt too small, add a web cam and flex until the shirt is ripped to threads. The effect is very primal and quite explosive, like a gamma bomb.

Annie Rivieccio was one of the first to “Hulk Out” but many have followed. The Shirt Rippers Blog listed their “Hulking Out Power Rankings” for women in this genre. The top spot goes to Mz. Devious aka Danni. She explains the process “I stuff my pecs into a tight blouse, button myself in and watch as my chest expands close up… ripping off each button (hands free hulk out) the buttons go pop pop pop and hit the walls, the camera and take flight! then shredding the shirt , like a paper shredder….”. Her latest hulk out video became the #1 top selling clip in just a few days. Other Hulksters on the rankings list include Laurie Steel, Florina Visan, Oana Hreapca and of course Annie.

From the 5 year old that’s still inside us… thanks Hulk!

Female Bodybuilder Juliette Bergmann Biography http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-juliette-bergmann-biography/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-juliette-bergmann-biography/#comments Wed, 18 Nov 2009 11:27:36 +0000 Alexa http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9540 juliette-bergmannJuliette Maria Suzanna Bergmann (born November 30, 1958) is a champion Dutch female bodybuilder, the 2001 Ms. Olympia.

Early years

Bergmann was born in Vlaardingen, Netherlands, from a Dutch mother and an Indonesian father. During her childhood she lost two brothers, causing much grief to her mother, who laid a larger responsibility on Juliette, the oldest child. That period in her life, she believes, made her a disciplined and responsible person.

After finishing school she went on to study financial management, journalism and fitness training. She got married (married name – Meijer) in 1975, but divorced in 1985.

Bodybuilding career

She began training to lose weight in 1981, but didn’t become a bodybuilder until 1983, after attending a female bodybuilding contest where she got a very good impression of the competitors. By the end of that year she would enter her first competition, where she placed first.

In 1984 she won the Dutch National Championship and repeated as champion in 1985. Later that same year she qualified for the World Amateur Championship, where she achieved first place. By the end of 1985 she competed in her first Ms. Olympia, but did poorly with a 14th placing. However, she achieved significant success in 1986 by winning the Pro World Championship, placing second (by one point) in the Ms. International, and sixth in the Ms. Olympia. After 1989 she planned to take a year off from competition and compete again in 1991, but her plans were derailed when she suffered a badly broken ankle. She was not able to train seriously again for a couple of years.

In 2001, Bergmann returned to competition after a twelve year absence, during which she worked as an IFBB judge. Entering the Ms. Olympia contest, she took first place in the lightweight class, and also won the overall title. She repeated as the Ms. Olympia lightweight class winner in 2002 and 2003, losing the overall title to Lenda Murray both years.

Juliette has a daughter, Roxanne. She also has a sister, Leona, who has competed as a bodybuilder.

Female Bodybuilder Stacey Bentley Biography http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-stacey-bentley-biography/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-stacey-bentley-biography/#comments Tue, 17 Nov 2009 11:39:38 +0000 Alexa http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9534 stacey-bentleyStacey Bentley (born 1958) is a registered nurse and former professional female bodybuilder of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Along with Claudia Wilbourn and Rachel McLish, Bentley was among the first role models of bodybuilding for women and the benefits that it can bring to them.

Biography

Bentley was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where at a young age she was a very active, sports-oriented child. In her high school days she was a diver and later continued her education at Franconia College in New Hampshire. It was at this time (around 1970) that Bentley discovered weight training and decided to train with the goal of achieving a healthy fit physique.

Although she admired muscular, fit women, Bentley felt uncomfortable admitting that she weight trained to achieve her toned body. She would often say that she was a gymnast, or a swimmer, and would not attribute her physique to weight training workouts, due to the discomfort she felt from the way people perceived her.

Bentley moved to Los Angeles and quickly became a role model for women’s bodybuilding while working with Joe Gold and competing in bodybuilding shows. She worked as a women’s supervisor at the Sports Connection while training hard for upcoming bodybuilding shows.

Her career as a bodybuilder took off on June 16, 1979, at the inaugural Women’s World Bodybuilding Championships, where she competed against bodybuilding stars such as Lisa Lyon (who won the contest), Claudia Wilbourn, Stella Martinez, and Bette Brown. Bentley finished in the top five in that contest.

Later that year Bentley won the Robby Robinson Classic, also winning awards for best legs and best poser. Bentley continued with two more victories, winning the World Couples Championships (with Chris Dickerson) and the Frank Zane Invitational. Her last bodybuilding contest was be the inaugural IFBB Miss Olympia, where she placed fifth.

Bentley retired after the Olympia when she realized that she was becoming obsessive in her pursuit of physical perfection. She switched from weight training to jogging and let her body reach her off season weight of 125 from contest ready of 108 pounds. She then became a personal trainer for people such as actor Jack Nicholson.

Bentley continued to be a role model to people to improve themselves physically and mentally through bodybuilding as a personal trainer. She also helped people through her work as a nurse at Northridge Hospital in California, where she focused on patients with eating disorders. She would later work with blind and deaf children at a Pennsylvania school.

During this time, while helping others deal with their health problems, Bentley was fighting health problems of her own. For several years after retiring she struggled with bulimia, alcohol abuse, and drugs, a problem she shared with fellow bodybuilding competitor Laura Combes who died of acute alcohol poisoning.

Stacey was able to overcome her health problems and continued her career as a nurse in her home state of Pennsylvania. In 1998 she was married. She still maintains contact with the bodybuilding world, and in 2005 she was inducted into the IFBB Hall of Fame.

Bentley’s career as a competitive bodybuilder stands out, despite its brevity, for her placing in the top five in each of the six bodybuilding contests that she competed in. Her competitive career was also unique in that each of the bodybuilding contests that she competed in marked the inaugural staging of that event.

Lake Placid, NY hosts the Skate American competition this year. Kim Yu-na took home the title despite losing the free-skate competition the day before. Her loss of the free-skate competition was due to two major mistakes including a fall on an element that she struggles with, the triple flip. Her outstanding score in the short program shot put her into a lead that no one could close in upon, and she win the gold medal by 13 huge points.

Sharon, a French-Canadian Métis, was born in the mining city of Timmins, Ontario. She began her career as a fashion model, at which she was successful until contracting a bad case of pneumonia, which caused her to lose a lot of weight.

Soon after her recovery she began training with weights to regain the weight she needed to get back to modeling. After achieving a somewhat toned build, she was rejected at model agencies for being oversized. She then decided to give up modeling and dedicate herself to bodybuilding.

Sharon became one of the most famous women in the sport, leading to frequent photo shoots and several covers for magazines like Muscle & Fitness and Flex.

Currently Bruneau is pursuing an acting career, though she still models for fitness pictorials occasionally. She has had roles in releases such as Tornado Run, Nemesis 2: Nebula, Nemesis III: Prey Harder, and R.S.V.P..

Female Bodybuilder Shelley Beattie Biography http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-shelley-beattie-biography/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-shelley-beattie-biography/#comments Mon, 16 Nov 2009 11:29:06 +0000 Alexa http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9528 shelly-beattieShelley Beattie (August 24, 1967 – February 16, 2008) was a former professional female bodybuilder and actress.

At the peak of her competitive career as a professional bodybuilder Shelley managed to reach the top-three at the Ms. International and Ms. Olympia contests, the two most prestigious shows for female professional bodybuilders. She was also well-known for having been one of the few deaf professional female bodybuilders in the world, making the cover of DeafLife magazine twice in the ’90s. After her retirement she joined the Grinder on America3’s America’s Cup team and managed to reach second place in such competition in 1994 and again in 1995.

Biography

Shelley Ann Beattie was born in Orange County, California. At the age of three she suffered a hearing loss from an aspirin overdose. Her peers’ misunderstandings and lack of education about people who are deaf led to trouble socializing. Since she could only understand her classmates if they were facing her, she had difficulty communicating with her classmates, who assumed she was mentally disadvantaged and rejected her. Beattie became a loner and began to use sports to deal with her frustrations and lack of social life. She also learned sign language and had several operations and speech therapy to improve her ability to communicate.

In school Beattie began to compete in track and field, including Heptathlon, Cross Country, Hurdling, and 400 meter sprints. A gifted athlete, she was a natural in all these events. Her specialty was the low hurdle, where she set school records. As a standout in track and field, Shelley enjoyed the competition. Her hearing loss was not a factor when she was running. Beattie began lifting weights at 14 to improve her time in the hurdles and 400s. She wanted to compete against the boys since she was so much better than the girls on her team. Weight lifting was also a way for Shelley to rebel. She wanted to stand out from the other girls, and knew that weight lifting would allow her to achieve this. She first began weight training in her high school’s small weight room, and made quick gains. By the age of 15, she was seeing the results of her time in the gym.

At the age of 16 she tripped over a hurdle and damaged her ankle. Beattie believed the injury would prevent her from continuing to compete in track. Her family life, which was characterized by instability, added to her anxiety and frustration, leading to an array of personal problems. She found that weight lifting and song writing helped her cope with her situation. She even became the lead singer of a traveling band while in high school.

Shelley attended Western Oregon State College in Monmouth from 1984 to 1988. There, she focused on weight training and power lifting to help her deal with her emotional challenges, as well as to help her heal her body. She graduated in 1988, having obtained a degree in Child Psychology and Special Education. While at Western, Shelley also studied Jazz dance and choreography, and joined a dance company. She found choreography and dance helped her to both control and express her emotions. During this time, Shelley also began to compete as an amateur in bodybuilding competitions. She entered her first competition, the Portland Rose Cup Novice, at 124 pounds, and finished 4th in the heavyweight class. Following this experience, Beattie decided a career as a professional bodybuilder was for her.

Shelley continued to compete regularly through the late 80s, reaching the top-five of every amateur competition she entered, and soon began to win every amateur show she competed in. She soon developed a friendly rivalry with Nikki Fuller who she many times finished second to at the amateur level. But this changed when Beattie teamed-up with Oregon State exercise and physiology graduate Aaron Shelley in 1989. With him, she made tremendous progress and became a transformed bodybuilder in 1990. With improvements in her diet and training, she managed to take the overall title at the 1990 NPC Emerald Cup, the Pacific Coast Championships, and earned her pro card in bodybuilding when, at age 22, she won the overall title at the 1990 NPC USA Championship.

Afterwards Beattie had a very demanding schedule. Weight training at a professional level, coupled with working two jobs (she was a group home counselor for developmentally delayed teenagers) left her with little time or energy. She scheduled her workouts around her jobs. When she received sponsorship by a major fitness company, she had the financial stability to quit one job and follow a more normal training schedule.

During her competitive days as a professional she competed at a height of 5 feet 7 inches in a bodyweight of around 144 pounds and soon became known for her great genetics as well as her graceful and artistic presentation while competing. Beattie credited the genetics of her athletic family for her physical abilities: her mother is a six-foot tall athlete while her sister is a 5 foot 10 inch, 180-pound basketball player at Portland State University. After winning the 1990 NPC USA and turning pro she found herself in some problems with the politics of the bodybuilding federation known as the IFBB; she was unable to compete at the 1990 Ms. Olympia after her USA victory. She also was unhappy when some contest promises were not fulfilled. Beattie said, “Certain benefits and reimbursements from the USA that I was supposed to receive have never happened. I have made the proper people aware of this situation, so I’m hoping that one day they will fulfill their obligations.” After missing the 1990 Ms. Olympia she competed for the first time as a professional at the 1991 Ms. International where she finished 3rd. The same year she reached 7th at Ms. Olympia. The next year, 1992, she added more poise and grace to her physique and presentation and managed to finish 3rd at Ms. Olympia, her highest professional bodybuilding achievement.

She retired from bodybuilding competition after placing 7th in the 1993 Ms. Olympia contest. Retirement from bodybuilding didn’t bring and end to her athletic endeavors, though. Beattie competed as a grinder on the America³ sailing team (the first all-women’s America’s Cup team). Grinders alternate between periods of inactivity and grueling physical work during each sail hoist, tack, and gybe. They require tremendous strength as they operate the winches that reel in the sheets and halyards.

During the early 1990s, Beattie also joined the American Gladiators TV show as “Siren”, performing in 44 episodes between 1992 and 1997. Because she was deaf, she received visual cues from referee Larry Thompson as well as from fellow Gladiator, Salina “Elektra” Bartunek, while competing. Spectators would wave their hands in the air or stomp their feet, rather than applaud, to acknowledge her performances.

She was married to John Romano, a well-known columnist for the magazine Muscular Development, for six years.

Until her death, Shelley lived on a farm east of Salem, Oregon, with her partner, Julie Moisa, and worked with people with physical impairments. She also made drums and jewelry, and worked as a personal trainer.

    Female Bodybuilder Kay Baxter Biography

    Kay Baxter (October 3, 1945 – May 16, 1988) was a pioneer female bodybuilder.

Baxter competed in women’s bodybuilding from 1979 to 1986, competing in four IFBB Ms. Olympia competitions between 1982 and 1985. She was inspirational for many up-and-coming female bodybuilders. She was not overly successful in competitions, being deemed inappropriate for general acceptance (too massive) by judges. However, she was extremely popular amongst fans of the sport, winning the Women’s Physique Publication “The Best Woman Bodybuilder in the World” poll every year from 1979 to 1982.

She placed 8th in her first Ms. Olympia and 16th in 1984, but never considered wavering from her pursuit of maximum muscle: “Someone had to stick her neck out for the cause of muscular women … and I’ve got no regrets about that… not one”, she said. One of her catchphrases was “Get built without guilt”.

Baxter died in a car crash in 1988 just as her career was moving towards acting. She was inducted into the IFBB Hall of Fame in 2001.

And now, a smile from Shemuscle to you! No, Brian Moss didn’t place the “smiley face” on this image. I did, silly. Why? Because what lies behind the smiley face is so stunning…so shocking…so immensely staggering, that I wanted you to have some prep time before seeing the image in its full glory.

Are you ready? Head over to Shemuscle NOW!

Tatiana Anderson [AKA MuscleBunny] just killed it with her retro gold lame’ one piece and head band. At 5′ 10″ and 195 lbs she is truly a force of nature. A real life Amazon. I told her that I had a pair of roller skates from the late 1970’s that would compliment her outfit. She asked if they were size 12? Um, no.

There are many amazing artists that love and depict strong, muscular women in their art. One of the finest is Jebriodo (Jed Dougherty). His works primarily depicts female strength and power, as expressed through physical mass and energy. There is a fantastic, surreal and often humorous element to many of his paintings.

His imagery is inspired by a number of sources, from the physical exaggerations of ancient goddess images, burlesque figurative paintings, female comic-book physiques and female bodybuilders. Jed’s artwork has been shown in several galleries and has won numerous awards. Check out more of his work at http://jebriodo.deviantart.com/ and http://www.jedsart.com/. Female Bodybuilder Christa Bauch Biography http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-christa-bauch-biography/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/female-bodybuilder-christa-bauch-biography/#comments Fri, 13 Nov 2009 11:30:52 +0000 Alexa http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9391 christa-bauchFemale Bodybuilder Christa Bauch Biography

Christa Bauch (born on December 19, 1947) is a professional female bodybuilder from Germany.

Born in Bad Schandau, East Germany, Bauch enjoyed music, riding and sprinting at school, before training as a masseuse and swimming pool medic. At 27 she left East Germany to settle in the West; this was done legally, as she married a West German citizen and waited the required five years for an exit permit. Her oldest son, Daniel, was five years old, and she was pregnant with her second child, Patricia. Shortly after she relocated to West Germany, her husband, employed by the German engineering company AEG, was transferred to Baghdad. Further spells followed in Guatemala and Algeria, before Bauch returned to Germany on her own with the children, to ensure they got a proper education. Her third child, Rene, was born a few years later.

Looking for a challenge, Bauch took up rifle shooting for several years before taking up bodybuilding. Bauch won several local and regional shows before her first big competitive year in 1987. After only two years training she took second places in the NABBA German, European and World championships (in the last of these losing out to American Connie McCloskey). In 1988 she switched to the WABBA organization, taking the overall European title as well as the couples title. The following year she move to the IFBB. After a disappointing second place in the German Nationals, Bauch won the World Games heavyweight title in Karlsruhe (only 20 miles from her home), beating out a strong field including countrywoman Jutta Tippelt and American Kim King. With the World Games victory she earned her pro card.

Bauch’s first pro show was the 1990 Ms. International, at age 43. After turning in an impressive fourth place finish, she was disqualified as a result of a positive drug test (WPW, 1993). More problems followed as Bauch had to have an operation later that year to remove a vein in her leg. A few months later she bounced back with a fourth place finish in the Italian Grand Prix in Rimini, missing a Ms. Olympia qualification by one slot.

Bauch’s highest placing as a professional was second at the 1994 Canada Cup. She retired from competition after the 1995 Jan Tana Classic. Although she no longer competes, she continues to train. At a height of 5′3″, Bauch’s normal contest weight ranged from 132 to 145 pounds.

Their two daughters Alex, 16, and Daryl, 15, have each already won teenage national fitness competitions.

    Female Bodybuilder Nicole Bass Biography

Nicole Bass-Fuchs (born October 26, 1964) is an American bodybuilder, actress, professional wrestler and valet previously working for companies such as Extreme Championship Wrestling, WWE, XPW, and the National Wrestling Alliance.

Nicole Bass debuted in Extreme Championship Wrestling during the first half of 1998. She aligned herself with Justin Credible, Chastity and Jason. She participated in feuds with Tommy Dreamer, Mikey Whipwreck and Beulah McGillicutty.

Bass soon joined the World Wrestling Federation, debuting as Sable’s bodyguard at WrestleMania XV on March 28, 1999. She became involved in an extended feud with Debra McMichael, which culminated in a mixed tag match pitting Bass and Val Venis against Jeff Jarrett and Debra at the 1999 WWF Over the Edge. Bass was then aligned with Venis until she accidentally whacked him with Jarrett’s guitar after losing a bikini contest to Debra. The following week, she interfered in a match between Debra and Ivory, with Debra losing her Women’s Championship due to Nicole’s interference. This led to a brief alliance between Bass and Ivory, which ended abruptly when Bass left the WWF and filed a lawsuit against the organization for sexual harassment, claiming she was sexually assaulted backstage by Steve Lombardi. In 2003 the case went to court and was ultimately dismissed.

Bass continues to wrestle on the independent wrestling circuit, taking bookings through her official website. Bass also does bookings for public events and for personal training.

The BYU and University of New Mexico, long time rivals, hit the field in a grudge match. UNM player, Elizabeth Lambert, 20 and occupational therapist student, is part of a you tube sensation receiving over 5 million views in under a week. The video shows Elizabeth involved in foul after foul that only resulted in a yellow card during the game. However, after consideration, the University has suspended her from college athletics. She issued an apology for her actions and claimed her emotions got the best of her. I think she would be better suited for MMA and may want to reconsider majors. I would think occupational therapy would require a bit more tolerance and control.

    Female Bodybuilder Rebekka Armstrong Biography

Rebekka Lynn Armstrong (born February 20, 1967 in Bakersfield, California) is a Playboy Playmate, whose announcement in 1994 that she was HIV-positive made international headlines.

Armstrong appeared in Playboy’s September 1986 issue, and tested positive for HIV in 1989. When she made her public announcement in 1994, she became (along with Magic Johnson) one of the best-known public faces of heterosexual HIV transmission. In her speaking engagements, she notes that despite popular stereotypes of the wild sexual lives enjoyed by Playboy Playmates, she had in fact contracted HIV from a relatively normal teenage sexual encounter. In an interview Armstrong had stated she was unsure how exactly she contracted the virus; she believes it could have been when she had an abortion and required a blood transfusion, of which the blood may have been HIV-tainted, or it may have been a teenage sexual encounter with a man who had had homosexual relationships and may have contracted HIV as a result of that.

In the same article in which she announced her HIV status, Armstrong also said she was a lesbian. She is currently married to a man named Oliver.

She is now an HIV/AIDS awareness activist and safer sex educator, and a spokeswoman for several HIV-related charity groups. She has also become a competitive bodybuilder, and placed first in the middleweight category of the 2004 Los Angeles Bodybuilding and Figure Championship.

    Another Bodybuilding Title Taken Away http://femalemuscle.com/news/another-bodybuilding-title-taken-away/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/another-bodybuilding-title-taken-away/#comments Tue, 10 Nov 2009 04:35:26 +0000 LeslieRae http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9432 HERCULIZA___2009_PRO_US_CUP

Liza Reichenberger aka “Herculiza,” 49, and former  2008 WNBF Natural Universe Champion, among many other titles, has had her most recent win stripped. Liza was the overall winner of the recent WNBF Pro U.S. Cup Natural Bodybuilding Championships on October 26 in Sacramento. She came in with an impressive package and was rewarded for it. However, despite passing a polygraph test, she failed the urine test. The failed test came from a prescription cream she was using for menopause, to which she had no idea contained banned hormones.

Liza commented on the situation, “Other female competitors my age should be warned about ‘menopause’ creams and that symptomatic relief could precipitate suspension from the WNBF.  The loss of titles earned while under treatment is DEVASTATING and can be avoided. I unwittingly used the ointment for menopausal symptoms, not realizing all of the contents.”

Liza has been suspended by the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) for 7 years, but her fellow competitors wish her the best and know that her situation has been unfortunate. She has passed so many tests before and won numerous titles. This mistake has cost her so much and is the end of a long run.

“Am I ignorant? Yes,” says Liza, “But innocent. Let this be a warning to protect others who might unwittingly suffer my same fate. I have been SO outspoken against steroid use…25 years now, and to go out like this?! How ironic.  I am 49, and after the suspension lifts, will be 56. My career with the WNBF is essentially over, but I have no intention of finger-pointing, complaining, or spreading viciousness.”

La Culture Physique http://femalemuscle.com/news/la-culture-physique/ http://femalemuscle.com/news/la-culture-physique/#comments Mon, 09 Nov 2009 12:00:34 +0000 Alexa http://femalemuscle.com/?p=9357 la_culture_physiqueBoy, times…do they change. In 100 years, the body of the female athlete has evolved from chunky and fit to ripped and muscular. Few modern women would dare bare this “old school” look in a bikini. Yet, 100 years ago it was considered the look of health.

The images from the attached magazine cover are from Professor Edmond Desbonnet and the French physique magazine, La Cutlture Physique.

Edmond Desbonnet (1867 – 1953) was a French academic and photographer who championed physical culture. He made physical education fashionable in belle époque France through the publication of fitness journals and by opening a chain of exercise clubs.

Because of copyright issues, Female Muscle can’t reprint Desbonnet’s images. But you can view the nudes here.

Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, who has been a force in basketball since she was 17, is still making waves. Nancy will be coach of the Dallas Mavericks’ affiliate in the NBA Development League thus making her the first female coach for a men’s team. Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks’ president of basketball operations, made the hiring decision.

“She’s got the skins, the experience — she knows what she’s doing — so I certainly hope that we’re well beyond those issues,” Nelson said. “Besides, if you can’t respect authority, no matter what form or color it comes in, I don’t want you on my team.”

Nancy has made history before. She was the first woman to play pro basketball with men and when the WNBA came around she not only played, but coached, was a general manager and set a record as the oldest player in WNBA history when she dressed out for a game at age 50.

“In 1986, my goal was not to be a girl playing in a men’s league, it was to be a player in a men’s league,” she added. “In 2010, I don’t want to be a woman who is coaching men, I want to be a coach who is coaching.”
