Hit 101, Get 75
Feature Box, News — By LeslieRae on December 3, 2009 at 6:49 pmThe 2007 mugging of Rose Morat, then 101-years-old, and two other women, landed the assailant, Jack Rhodes, with a conviction and 75-years in prison. What makes this story so interesting, besides the shock of the brutality on a women over 100, is the women’s strength and courage. She said “I’m quite sure that if it had happened when I was younger, I would have been after him. I’m a very strong woman. I’ve been that way my whole life.” Jack got Rose’s purse and $33; Rose got a beating.
Rose, now 103-years-old, wrote a letter to the to the judge prior to the sentencing:
“I am writing this letter regarding my experience of a cruel and brutal attack by Jack Rhodes on March 4, 2007. Leaving my apartment he attacked, injured my face with a severe blow that broke my cheekbone. He continued hitting me several more times and left me in a pool of blood and [I] had to be taken to the hospital. Atrocities done frequently by the man Jack Rhodes must be stopped … so that this will never happen again to other good people and life once again can be enjoyed without fear. Knowing justice will be done, I am respectfully, Rose M. Morat, 103 years old.”

Rose is one of the most amazing woman ever.
My second grandfather is 101 years old.
I wish I could introduce them.
My granny would love Rose!
She taught me to be strong and tough and that is how I live my life.
