Video footage is Isis the giant, a 7 foot tall female wrestler. Lindsay Hayward, who uses the wrestling names Isis, The Amazon Isis, and Nadia, is from Rocklin, California. She is strong, athletic, and a force to be reckoned with.

Natalia Murnikoviene, from Lithuania who was named ‘Women’s Physique World’s’ European Bodybuilder of the year for 1994, is an ex-gymnast and a top-3 IFBB Olympic Bodybuilder, takes on Fabiana. Fabiana (I am not even sure that is how to spell her name) is also mentioned as a champion bodybuilder, however I am not able to get any information on her other than what is given in the short introduction to the clip.

These two are featured in an all out bout of strength. Neither is noted for having any experience in wrestling. Natalia is proven to be too strong and knows it! Her English is good enough to make her point, but her opponent doesn’t seem to understand any more than she is willing to give up without a fight!

She maybe “only a freshman” but at the FILA Pan American Junior Championships at Guadalajara, Mexico, she was a superstar. Randi Beltz, freshman at Missouri Valley College, was the first female wrestler to win a medal at the MSHSAA Championships, and she did it twice. She was one of three on team USA to win gold and assist the team in finishing in first place. Randi was in the 63-kilogram weight class and won three out of four matches to clinch the gold.

Randi being a girl in a male dominated sport has found herself in matches with boys more than once, and has won more than once. A gratifying feat. “Some opponents get ticked off,” Randi said. “Some parents get ticked off. A couple of boys have cried.”

Captain Lou Albano passed away these week from natural causes at the age 0f 76. Though Captain Lou was known for many things, some of his most memorable moments came when interacting with Cyndi Lauper.

“Loopy” Lauper, as Captain Lou liked to call her, reflects on the impact that the wrestling legend had upon her music career:

“(He took me up the charts)…from 10, to 5, to 4 to 1, to minus 5 and back up to 1 again.”

Captain Lou’s friendship with Loopy Lauper transcended wrestling. The Captain appeared as Cyndi’s father in the 1983 video for Girls Just Want to Have Fun. They also worked together on several other projects.

It’s on like Donkey Kong! Linda McMahon is officially running full speed ahead in her attempt to remove Christopher Dodd from Washington. From Courant.com:

“I will be in this campaign spending and matching dollar for dollar and spending what it takes to retire Chris Dodd,” McMahon told Republicans gathered in Windsor recently. “The 2010 election is going to be a referendum on whether we continue to support a runaway Washington that is out of control.”

It is speculated that Linda McMahon may spend upwards of $25 million dollars on print and media ads alone. Talk about a flying body block!

Democratic strategist Roy Occhiogrosso had this to say about Linda McMahon’s political venture:

“…it’s fairly hard to imagine someone with that background beating a U.S. senator.”

So while TNA wrestling is a bit Hollywood and slightly over the “top-rope,” it doesn’t take away from the athleticism or power. The Knockouts, a division added to the TNA lineup, has stepped away from pure sex appeal and added pure brute. One of the first women to the group, known as Velvet Sky said:

“When I came to TNA in 2007 and judging by the group of girls TNA brought in for the pay-per-view, I knew immediately we were going to be taken seriously, and we weren’t going to be doing bra and panties matches or pudding, jello and whatever else was being done [in WWE].”

The division has increased in numbers and popularity. Now, there are nearly 20 women, and they have added tag-team titles to the card. While they aren’t jello-shots, the shots these girls take are big and impressive!

The World Championships took place in Denmark last week. The U.S. hopeful, a recent high school graduate, Adeline Gray, was in the lead all the way late into the second period. Her lead was over when she was pushed out of bounds by Nigeria’s, Ifeoma Iheanacho.

Gray never recovered from the loss and ended up taking fifth place in her first visit to the World Championships. The U.S. team ended up placing 6th overall. This was the first time the U.S. did not take a medal miss since joining the competition in 1989. 

“We’re finishing a lot of matches trying not to lose,” U.S. National Coach Terry Steiner said, “We have to win. We have to wrestle to dominate. We have to take some risks and right now, we’re not doing that as a team. These athletes are great athletes, they’re great learners. They’re students of the sport.

“I firmly believe this group of athletes, we can win with them. We can win with these people. We need to continue to sharpen each other and be a team. We haven’t been ‘a team’ for a while. We need to get together and push each other.”

Earlier this week, Female Muscle ran a feature on the female wrestling feature film, Lipstick and Dynamite. One of the female wrestlers featured in Lipstick and Dynamite is Mary Lillian Ellison, also known as the Fabulous Moolah.

In 2007, the Fabulous Moolah passed away at the age of 84. From the NY Times:

When she started in pro wrestling in the early 1950s, the promoter Jack Pfeffer decided a name change was in order. As she told it in “The Fabulous Moolah: First Goddess of the Squared Circle” (Regan Books, 2002), written with Larry Platt, Pfeffer told her “the name Lillian Ellison wouldn’t do. Not flashy enough.”

He asked her why she was wrestling, and, as she recalled: “Annoyed, I blurted out: ‘For the money. I want to wrestle for the moolah.’”

The movie Lipstick and Dynamite, the First Ladies of Wrestling reflects on the history of female wrestling, and spotlights the stories of some of the most incredible women in the history of the sport.

The official website for Lipstick and Dynamite reveals that long before wrestling hit incredible heights of popularity, it was the women that were often the top draw:

“A cornerstone of the success of these promotions was the rise of women’s professional wrestling in the 1940’s and 50’s.”

Wrestlers featured in the film include Ella “The Policeman” Waldek, Gladys “Killem” Gillem, Ida May “The Body” Martinez, “The Great Mae Young”, “The Fabulous Moolah”, and Penny Banner.

“Full of outstanding archival footage of wrestlers like The Fabulous Moolah and Johnnie Mae Young, Lipstick and Dynamite is primarily concerned with the lives of hardship and hard work these superstars of the ring created for themselves. It could have been the sex, money, injuries, and intrigue that dominated their lives on the road, but the competitive passion of these women have for their sport shines through in director Ruth Leitman’s touching portrait of women who lived hard, and fought even harder.”

Gaetz Brook junior high in Nova Scotia, Canada may be where Jillian Mosher, 16, spends her school year, but the wrestling mat is where she does her schooling. She has been training for three years and entering weekend tournaments before she stepped on the mat at the Canada Summer Games.

Her debut at the Canada Games earned Jillian with the first medal awarded to a female in wrestling. Jillian competed in the 90-kg weight class and walked away with the bronze. She tried a variety of sports throughout the years but was drawn to wrestling.

“I liked it because it was so individual. If you messed up, it was your own fault. You have to work hard for yourself. …It’s your own work, your own mental ability.” -Jillian Mosher

Yes, you read that correctly. Linda McMahon will be battling Connecticut Democrat Christopher Dodd for his Senate seat.

“I never do anything half-heartedly,” McMahon said in a telephone interview Wednesday with The Associated Press. “I am 100 percent serious about this race.”

Christopher Dodd’s Senate seat is considered one of the most vulnerable seats in the upcoming election. Linda McMahon, 60, on Senator Dodd:

“(Dodd has)…lost his way and our trust.”

Linda McMahon co-founded the WWE with Vince McMahon. She has served as WWE CEO since 1997. Vince will assume the vacated CEO position.

“The product of WWE is currently very separate from the issues that are facing this country. We’ve got this unbelievable debt. We’ve got people out of work … I hope that the focus in this campaign will be on the serious nature of the issues that are facing this country.”

Mildred Burke, also known as Mildred Bliss in the wrestling ring, was a professional female wrestler from 1935 to 1955. Mildred is featured in a new book, The Queen of the Ring: Sex, Muscles, Diamonds, and the Making of an American Legend, authored by Jeff Leen.

Mildred Burke held the Woman’s World Championship for nearly 20 years.

Mildred started her career by wrestling men at carnivals. She was known for her outstanding muscular development, and had an interest in wrestling on the professional level.

During her wrestling career, Mildred faced many obstacles (including discrimination) and broke through many barriers. Watch Mildred Burke wrestle the Canadian female champion, Millie Stafford.

Many say Sally was abused and was defending herself, while others say she murdered Ray in out of jealousy.

Known now as WWE wrestler ‘Victoria’, Lisa is a former bodybuilder and IFBB pro fitness competitor who will add another feather to her cap – mixed martial arts fighting. Lisa has been with the WWE since 2000 after retiring from the competitive stage.

Lisa started as a bodybuilder, and won her first contest in 1995. She then switched to fitness, and earned her IFBB pro card at the 1999 NPC Team Universe.

Lisa Marie Varon is heading to the world of mixed martial arts.

Varon, perhaps better known as a World Wrestling Entertainment “diva” named Victoria, plans to make her pro MMA debut in the next year.
Despite Varon’s recent debut with WWE rival Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), Stewart said the nonrestrictive contract will allow his client to wrestle and compete in MMA simultaneously. (In fact, Lashley also recently signed a contract with TNA and debuted with the Spike TV-televised promotion back in April.)

While Varon is certainly marketable and athletic, she has one factor working against her: her age. At 38 years old, she will likely have a limited shelf life in MMA.

Sable took exception to this and replied “Just cause we don’t do the same thing you do to get the body you have“, a not so subtle dig at steroid use. Then she went in for the kill with “I work out just as hard as you do, but I do not supplement my body the way you do“.

A formal complaint has been filed with USA Wrestling by some of the USA’s top female wrestlers, claiming unfair and unequal treatment compared to the male wrestlers.

They cite the Amateur Sports Act which requires that men’s and women’s Olympic sports be treated equally.

USA Wrestling enforces disciplinary sanctions unequally between their male athletes and their female athletes.

USA Wrestling imposes unequal requirements and burdens on their female athletes for US amateur representation.

USA Wrestling offers disparate monetary incentives between their men’s and women’s programs.

USA Wrestling’s four-year High Performance Plan (HHP) visions for the treatment of their male and female athletes this quadrennium are unequal and place an unfair burden on female athletes.

USA Wrestling allows their National coaching staff to exhibit inappropriate predatory behavior towards outside female athletes and outside female training institutions.

USA Wrestling displays a higher tolerance for inappropriate, sub-standard coaching behavior over their female athletes.

USA Wrestling provides unequal caliber coaches for their female athletes as compared to their male athletes.

USA Wrestling provides a disproportionately low number of funded coaching positions for their women’s programs.

These four ladies pummel each other for a good 8 minutes. This ain’t the WWF, this real wrestling undertaken by four amazing female athletes who know what they’re doing. A winner!

Owner Kim Scott said she had a contract for male wrestlers to perform but while she was outside smoking two women in oil wrestled topless, and said she stopped the match immediately. “It was the girls’ first time wrestling. They wrestled in oil and their tops came off. I was outside smoking a cigarette and I stopped it as soon as I came in.” she said.

Scott said she thinks owners of competing bars are complaining about the entertainment she provides because of the business she gets.

Freestyle wrestler Carol Huynh won Canada’s first gold medal at the Beijing Olympics on Saturday, as her family cheered from their home in Hazelton, B.C.

She defeated Japan’s Chiharu Icho in the women’s 48-kilogram final at the China Agricultural University Gymnasium on Saturday to win her first career Olympic medal.

Huynh guaranteed the medal win after beating Tatyana Bakatyk of Kazakhstan in her 48-kilogram semifinal match Saturday.

“I knew that I had to set the pace, set the tone and make sure that I wrestled my match and not just wait around to see what she was going to do,” Huynh told reporters afterwards. “And it worked.”

Huynh, 27, won gold at last year’s Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 2005 world championship.

Il pugilato femminile italiano vanta delle ottime pugili, e molte ragazze praticano questo sport a livello amatoriale. Purtroppo vi sono ancora ridicole resistenze da parte di alcuni ambienti. Resistenze che vanno lentamente, ma gradualmente finendo.

Personally, I’m tired of all the injuries caused because of ju jitsu and believe, that overall, it’s added a lot of boredom to female versus female matches.

Even at the WWC a couple of FEMWIN sponsored matches were affected including Krissy being choked-out and Kara Bliss not being able to wrestle after being injured against Helen Von Mott. Now I have the utmost respect for both Grace and Helen and they would NEVER intentionally hurt someone but nonetheless, I’ve witnessed numerous injuries when a girl doesn’t have training in ju jitsu and doesn’t know when to tap while in some kind of joint lock, etc., such was probably the case with Kara.

No doubt people will argue that injuries happen in wrestling, which is true, but in my experience it happens far more often when one girl has a lot more skill in ju jitsu than her opponent, also, it’s an unfair advantage and reminds me of a kickboxer going against a boxer. I really think the more training a girl has in ju jitsu the more important it is that she wrestles somebody with similar training.

As a producer I will say that ju jitsu has brought a lot of boredom to the genre. Although there are sexy elements to ju jitsu such as armbars and triangle chokes it seems the more ju jitsu a girl knows the less you’ll see of scissors, grapevines, smothers, crossbody presses, full-nelsons, headlocks, etc. But an even bigger problem is that you’ll see a lot more one-sided matches and I’m not talking about a sexy domination match or catfight! However, the BIGGEST problem is that you’ll see a lot of seemingly emotionless fights!

FEMWIN’s promoted well over 500 various matches and based on this I can say that ju jitsu does have a role in the genre but in my opinion it should be primarily ju jitsu versus ju jitsu and it’s a great equalizer for girls when they wrestle guys. Also, some of the best and sexiest matches involve girls who both have a little training in ju jitsu but not too much!

Carano (6-0) proved too strong for Young, who never gave up, but whose face sustained bruising and swelling from withstanding right hands like a windmill. More importantly, female fighting, which has always been overlooked especially in boxing, was able to showcase technique, power and nonstop action between the two women warriors. It’s about time that America gets to see what only a few know: female fighters provide the best action. Carano pummeled Young and forced a knockout at the end of the second round.
