She has changed her work routine to accommodate being home and raising her three year old son with her husband. It is quite a change but it is so enjoyable spending time with him either swimming or playing soccer, or just building sand castles and reading books.

Yet more changes were on the way as they had their second child, a healthy boy in April 2015. They are all thrilled with the new addition to the family and have been embracing how life has continued to unfold as a family of four. Laura is still mostly with the kiddos except for when she is creating online workouts, writing fitness routines, or exploring new fitness centers in the greater Seattle area.

While her time with one on one clients has changed a bit, her fitness philosophy will always remain the same, work smarter and not harder. At the end of the day, she reminds her clients, friends, and family:

“Be Fit, Be Smart, Be Happy.”

More Background Info about Laura’s credentials:

As an elite and professional athlete most of her life, she has had to modify her training strategies according to what she was training for. For many years during her childhood she was an elite level gymnast training about 5-6 hours a day. She had to eat enough to give herself energy, but not too much that she couldn’t be light on her feet when flipping.

All the training and nutrition paid off as she earned a full-ride gymnastics scholarship to Michigan State University. Even though she began weight training her sophomore year in high school, it was more for prevention and strengthening for her weakened back due to stress fractures in her vertebrae Lumbar 4 and Lumbar 5. In college she was introduced to sport specific weight training. This was really what struck her interest in weight training, and more specifically, for her sport.

Although she completed her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science, she continued with her love and education of weight training and expanded her knowledge by earning one of the most prestigious certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Laura began one of the first “at home” training businesses in the Lansing area, working with television personalities, athletes, and moms.

Laura was awarded a full scholarship for graduate school at Michigan State University as a graduate assistant, teaching the health and wellness courses to the undergrad students. She took such a pleasure in shaping the minds and bodies of the under graduate students while she completed her Masters Degree in Exercise Science.

Shortly thereafter, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia and began her competitive fitness career – right after she performed in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 1996 Summer Olympics where she tumbled, danced and stunted in front of BILLIONS of people watching. Laura won her IFBB Fitness Pro card in one year (a relatively short period of time) by winning the 1998 NPC Nationals in Atlanta. This type of physique training was a whole new type of weight training that followed an extremely calculated nutrition program. While she competed all over the world, she still loved training clients. In Atlanta she worked with celebrity musicians, professional athletes, and a variety of moms (several that delivered twins).

IMG_1027After eight years in the south, Los Angeles was calling her name, so Laura packed up her bags and moved to the west coast. Again there, she was able to build up a clientele of professional entrepreneurs and stay at home moms. She was now finished with competing and began a more “lifestyle friendly” eating and exercise practice. With the weather great there almost daily, she and her clients enjoyed both gym and outdoor workouts.

IMG_2139For over thirteen years Los Angeles was home. Then at the end of 2015 she and her family packed their bags and moved to the Pacific Northwest. They have settled in the Seattle area where they are near family and the kiddos can grow up with their cousins. While she does miss the daily sunshine and the easy outdoor lifestyle, she has discovered some very important insights. She has learned she won’t melt in the rain, the people are refreshingly nice, and health and fitness is very important to the residents in greater Seattle. Moreover, fitness is her passion and she will continue helping others find passion in their fitness.
