Arnold and the History of Female Bodybuilding

In a post this week titled “A BRIEF HISTORY OF WOMEN’S BODYBUILDING“, the author remninds us of the ground breaking support given by Arnold Schwarzenegger many, many years ago. Arnold wrote:

““Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but in my view, women have the same skeletal muscles as men and should be free to develop them as they wish,” Arnold Schwarzenegger writes in The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. “We live in a time in which women are becoming involved in all manner of activities and professions that were once denied to them. I am happy to see women overcoming the artificial barriers that have limited them in the past.”

Arnold was the one great break-away star that bodybuilding needed. He’s always been gracious to both men’s and women’s competitors. Still and all, women’s bodybuilding can only become a force when it has its own ‘break away’ star. The closest we’ve come have been Cory Everson and Rachel McLish, but that was a number of years ago.
